spicer

any opinions on spicer frames? i'm trying to look at my options, but don't know anyone who has one...

Learn_not2burn 08-11-06 07:45 AM

you won't have any problems with it. Great basic frame. Plus Gene Spicer is incredibly nice, he'll always fix you up right.

+1.

i'm running on my second aluminum spicer- (trashed the first in a crash). It's not super-fancy, but i'm quite fond of it.

met a guy recently who has a 29" ss mtb spicer... REAL NICE BIKE.

he rides the ***** out of it and has no compaints!

gregg 08-11-06 08:57 AM

I ride a Spicer (http://velospace.org/node/123) and I really like it. Its a good aluminum frame, stiff as hell. The dropouts have replaceable titanium bits so I don't have to worry about chewing up aluminum back there. I've ridden the frame on all sorts of surfaces and enjoyed all of it (on the street, on the velo, on the prarie path, etc). Gene is a fantastic guy to boot

I have a Spicer stock aluminum frame and its sweet. Strangely long top tube but I like the geometry and its rock solid. Hes an amazing guy and super accomodating. Best service I have ever experienced anywhere (by far). Some people are kind of turned off by the inustrial techy stylings of gene's stuff but I personally like it. Heres a couple pics of mine looking clean and looking dirty

I pretty much have to reccomend that people buy from Spicer whenever they mention him.

edit: Hey Greg wassup!

Not much, living life and getting ready for the bike film fest here in Chicago tonight. Summer time in the city

chickPEA 08-11-06 09:41 AM

wow. between what i've read online and this forum i've heard nothing but good things about spicer. looks like i may just have to get myself a frame...

max-a-mill 08-11-06 09:53 AM

i don't think anyone does custom cheaper...

brooklyn 08-11-06 10:05 AM

what about his stock steel frames? The go for around $200

Sin-A-Matic 08-11-06 10:21 AM

I've got one of those cheap steel frames. They're not normally that cheap, he's clearing those out because the factory made a mistake. They were originally painted red, and then were painted over in black. I love mine and Gene is a good guy.

The normal cheap steel track frame is $275.

Luvthemas just got one of the bargain black over red frames. I gotta say, it's a nice one. He had Gene ship him a threaded fork with it, and he was way cool about it. The welds are decent looking, and the fork crown is quite nice looking.

eurotrash666 08-11-06 08:13 PM

the spicer titanium track frame is total bike porn

G0balistik 08-12-06 12:59 AM

I recently got one of the steel track frames and i like it alot. Its not fancy but it is a great deal and ride. Gene is a real nice guy.

Yes. Not the yellow one, though. Just the black over red.

Aeroplane 08-14-06 11:04 AM

I've got a second-hand custom Spicer SS MTB, and it is the balls. Only complaint is the Eccentric BB is a little weird, but that can be replaced.

More Spicer  here........

Gene even sent me a reciept for the shipping of my last
order to show he wasnt making $$$ on it !
Gene deserves a spot up there with Tony A. and Velocity as the epitome
of customer service and giving to the community.

sorsha6 08-14-06 12:32 PM

how does the sizing run on the steel track frame? Do they run small like mark Vs?

Shiznaz 08-14-06 01:18 PM

If anything I would say spicers run large, but email gene and he will be more than happy to tell you.

Retem 08-14-06 11:27 PM
