lub the impulse buys - ordered the Angus

Well some of you may have seen my post regarding the Merlin -

anyways i decided to fullfill my desire to own a fixie NOW damnit NOW - so i called Tony up. Who was very helpful with the many questions I had...so on order

59" Angus Black
1" threadless (PINK!) Chris King HS
Carbon Fork
Deep V rims (PINK!) with black spokes
IRO black handlebars and stem
IRO black cranks

dont know why but ive always thought pink looked good on bikes so i decided to go all black with pink accents...one thing i couldnt answer was what ratio i wanted. Not sure so Tony recommended going home and counting up my favorite gear on my road bikes and calling him tomorrow. Bad thing about impusle buys are you want it now damnit now - and now i have to wait

anything i should look to replace right off the bat - any parts I can target to save some weight? Any guesses as to the approx weight?

Looking forward to trying my 60mile commute on the Angus

baw

the deepvs would be the best place to start for weight savings.

as in the deep v's are boat anchors? From reading reviews etc they seemed the way to go as a "nice" set of wheels.

thx

Aerohead rims are just as sturdy for daily riding and are quite a bit lighter. Hell, my daily set of wheels are DA hubs on Open Pros (3x, tied and soldered naturally) and they aren't acting like the frilly race wheels they could have turned out as.

They are a good set of wheels, and strong as an ox, but they are on the heavy side. Its the compromise you make for the strength of all that extra material. For weight savings, maybe a carbon stem, seatpost and bars? I don't think the cranks are super heavy on those bikes. Theres not a whole lot of weight savings to be had on a fixed gear since you've already gotten rid of a lot (cogset, deraileurs, rear brake, etc.)

assuming nothing's defective you wont need to replace a thing on that bike for years. besides tubes and tires.

deep v's are (relatively) heavy, and some people don't like the way they look, but they're also burly as hell. i've abused mine for a little over a year and they've been un****witable. its liberating to not worry about hopping curbs or potholes.

I have an IRO of a similar build, with phil hubs and without CK headset. I love it for a daily rider, but I whish I would have gone with areoheads or open pros on the rims.

I still love riding my bike though.

ya im actually a bit surprised to hear how heavy the upgraded wheelset is heh im used to "nice wheels" meaning "light ass wheels" +\- 1500grams etc. But since i will be commuting they are prob perfect for what i need.
