Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

i wish someone had filmed this....

i was riding yesterday to meet up with a friend. i love riding no handed, so i was cruising sans hands for a while, and a ped starts jaywalking into my path. i reached for the flats on my bullhorns,to pull up for more leverage while backpedaling.

i missed the bars completely and flew onto my face. no big problems as a result, some scratches and crap, but damn, i wish i could have seen myself just randomly go flying.

meh, just a couple scrapes (though my left thumbnail was nearly torn straight off)...ego could have been bruised, but i decided to think of this as funny, and that wasn't such a problem anymore.

Did you roll by Oasis pizza Sunday? I made it to the east side to escape the bridge riders and thought I saw you ride past.

I understand you can only become a better rider by learning from you mistakes.

I love your attitude, Ian. So many crash stories involve a huge helping of self-pity. It's good to read a light-hearted view of falling off a bike.

Cheers.

Yeah, I'm pretty stupid too. Yesterday my bag shifted on my back while doing a trackstand at a light. I still had the tension set way up from the track and a strap on top of that, so i couldn't clip out in time to save it. Fell and broke my thumb pretty badly. Worst part was I kept trying to use that hand to get up and I couldn't, so I just kinda flopped around for a little bit.

i was riding no-hands down a pretty cut up road once, i thought it was no problem since i always no-hands this road, and i hit a pothole i've hit billions of times before... bad news. rear wheel flatted, and as my rear spun up to the right i tried to reach for my bars, which had moved to the left. hit the ground on my right side. didn't get hurt though.
