Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Since I cannot search. . .

I have one small question.

My fixie parts are coming in [finally!] and I am building up a suicide hub. Here comes the question, I heard your supposted to grease threads. With loctite your supposted to clean the threads. If I use loctite, do I have to not grease hub threads?

Thanks for any replys.

No. Loctite will act as a lubricant until it sets.

One of the main objectives of cleaning the threads before using loctite is to remove existing grease. You want nothing but loctite (or jb-weld, or gorilla blue, or whatever you want) between the cog and threads.

Think about that next time you fly.
The aerospace industry uses gallons of Loctite.

OP: Clean threads with solvent, apply Loctite, secure cog & lockring, Rotafix (or ride the bike up a steep hill), re-tighten lockring.

its a hub where you glue the cog on instead of using a lock ring to hold it down.

Suicide hubs are only dangerous if you ride brakeless because if it comes undone, then Sir Isacc Newton takes over the control of your bike if you are on a hill.

But if you have brakes, then you just stop and fix it.

JB Weld rocks! I used it when I stripped my BB on my conversion. I used Loctite on my cog and it's held up fine, skids and all!

I was thinking, I might have to JB it on because I have no clue if the lockring will have enough room to fit.

But the whole wheel was only 3$, so no loss there.
