this is sort of off topic....
but i was watching some pogues videos on you tube and wishing i could see them. i know they did a reunion tour that didn't come here, but i wonder if perhaps the pogues and mr. macgowan would be considering another jaunt across the u.s. of a?
also, it's of interest to me that i've noticed that many of us in the fixed gear world are of irish descent. at the company i work for as a messenger, most of us are irish or scottish, and those of us who are ride fixed. this board has been host to many a celtic-themed thread i've seen...i always wonder why i see so many more irish and scots in the fixed gear world than in everyday encounters.

I saw the pogues a few years ago. They played in Anaheim. Must have been early 2002? I think shane is the only original member. They were entertaining. Songs sounded good, but shane macgowan just sort of stumbled around and the rest of the members seemed to watch the audience as if to say "I can't believe you're falling for this guy." At least that was what I got from it.
P.S. I'm not Irish.

shane macgowan was cool to a point...i've heard some of his stuff with the popes, and while he's the same astounding songwriter, he's still the same drug-addled drunk who turns his own perfect creations into muddled performances...i have recordings of recent popes performances, and he's hardly coherent.
that said pogues in their era of greatness were one of the best bands i've ever heard.
as far as the irish/scots thing...i could be way off the mark. i just know i've met more irish and scots through bikes than any other pursuit i have.

i either suck at fighting or i rule at it. when i fight, i go for the death. i go berzerk. i don't rest until i can taste the blood of my oponent. which is why i don't fight. it's not that i'm a wuss...but if i lose control, bam! the whole fight just got a lot more intense.

Did Shane McGowan clean up?
Will they ever take up a collection in Ireland or the UK to fix his teeth?

As of the last time i saw him, he was apparently trying to kill off the last of his teeth so he could start fresh.
