fuji track adequate?

Fuji track bike... not a great bike, but being that I could get one dirt cheap (I seem to recall a link to them being sold online for under $400), do we think it's worth it? I've been waiting a while now to buy a new bike but being that I'm dead poor (college...) I don't see that I'm going to be able to spend more than $400 anytime in the near future (in fact I shouldn't be spending even that much. sigh).
I want a fixie for bumming around town and the occasional longer recreational ride. Another thing I should mention is that I'll be riding it bone stock for at least the first few months.
So, should I be avoiding it at all costs or would it suit me alright for my casual use?
Finally, if anyone has the link where it was selling cheap, or knows of somewhere, let me know.

thanks guys

I should mention what I really want is a Schwinn Madison, but we'll have to see about that.

Fuji will do you right...

my first bike purchase, truly my first current generation road bike of any form, is an 06 fuji track. i got it in december and have been riding the living **** out of it since then. i am currently over a month into a downtown richmond courier job, and ride hard every single day. this bike has never given me problems. i love it to death. i am slowly learning and buying and modding and enjoying every minute of it. it's my baby and that's all there is to it. who cares if a bunch of other people have it? it's what i could afford and it's been worth every penny. i have nothing but love.

Adequate is one adjective people around here should be more familiar with. We're all so blinded by bike lust that we start to convince ourselves and each other that nothing less than awesome will do. In fact the Fuji Track is a very adequate bike. You should be able to ride it hard for a good long while with out breaking or wearing out any parts. wheels may need a true after a while, but it shouldn't fall apart on you. Heck you could even race it. I understand a lot of Velodromes use them for their rental fleets.

i've heard the cog and lockring can strip your hub. they're probably worth replacing. other than that, +aliens.

That link you're talking about just uped their price to around $500. Probably due to all the talk about them on this board. Thanks ****ers!

regardless, could you post the link?

nevermind, I found it. (http://www.thebikebiz.com/Track_s/191.htm). Oh well, looks like still no track bike for me. Sigh.

Don't mean to bump such an old thread but I just got my hands on an '06 for a good price. Are the decals clear-coated or removable?

TNCLR 09-26-06 04:06 PM

Don't you have one?

Off-topic, but i'm coming up to Richmond very soon. You down for riding with people you have never met before? Heh. I would love to get some riding in with some people while i'm up there. Heard it is a beautiful city... especially downtown.

Not yet. I am getting it transferred from a local shops warehouse but will not actually have my hands on it for a few days ...

Fuji did a recall on the 06, if your shop hasnt replaced the fscked parts yet, make them when you pick it up or take it back if you did not know about it.

Heard about the recall. Any place I can find that info to bring in with me when I pick it up? Nothing on the Fuji site that I can find or when I google it.

search for the first thread about it on BF, and then search for that link on google. the actual page linked to is no longer online, but google should have it archived if you provide it with the old link.

Sorsha6...ummm...hell-ooooooooo? Don't you really want a Madison? ;)

sorsha6 09-27-06 09:05 AM

of course I do... this was posted a while ago when I thought I couldn't get one.

I Like Peeing 09-27-06 09:10 AM

I think Fuji Track bikes are pretty, but I wouldn't get one. Especially if you consider yourself to be a "hard rider". My friend has been borrowing his roommate's for only a few weeks and already destroyed the rear hub/cog setup.

dutret 09-27-06 09:11 AM

wait a month or two and check at bike shops especially large chain ones... I got a new fuji for $280 in november last year.

dutret 09-27-06 02:52 PM

where is the picture of it trashed?

ka12na 09-27-06 02:57 PM

Just the front wheel and fork were bent, mind you!

Just put an order on the LBS 2 days ago to get another NMSW white deep v, and then I'm gonna go rebuild the front. Fork's been bent back into shape, but I'm not sure if I want to keep it for too much longer.
