Portable Tool for Track Nuts???

What tool do you use to remove the rear axle nuts to change flats in the rear when you're on the road?

you got two choices. they make cone wrenches in 15 mm, which are small but suck as far as leverage. or 15mm pedal wrenches (what i carry) give you lots of leverage but also are big.

phils (and a few others) just require a #6 allen wrench. I used to use my pedal wrench or a crescent wrench though.

go to a decent hardware store and buy a 15mm combination wrench, compact size if you're concerned about space, although the leverage tradeoff kind of sucks. a quality one will run you $4-$8. use the closed end, it's quicker and you won't strip your track nuts up.

you didn't think my nuts were too tight when you visited!!!

seriously though, you don't really need a pedal wrench. if you tighten with the same tool as the one you loosen with, you'll be fine.

if youre in the mood to ebay.. campy used to make a thin 15mm closed end wrench that is really nice for track nuts... the handle is easy on the palms and its light.

A good troll can remove them with his bare hands.
