Pista Downtube.... does this look right?????????

I just purchased a Bianchi Pista 06 used. After I bought it I noticed that the downtube seems to have some tapering to it. It starts out round like a regular tube shape then its tapers in and turn more ovel shaped at the Bicnchi logo and back to the cilinder shape near the bottom bracket. Is this normal or not? I'm hoping i didnt get a crashed frame... it looks straight though

Post a picture and you will have a better chance of finding out. From what you described it sounds like tapered tubing which is factory *****.

who would clamp a bike by the downtube right at the bottom bracket?

The frame should have an oval shape at the BB and change shape to however Bianchi shapes it.

totally normal. I didn't notice it until I removed the decals. I figure the aero shape shaves a few seconds off my liquor store runs.

it's called biovalized tubing. oval vertically at the headube junction, horizontally at the bb. or just round at the top, ovalized at the bottom. it's done for increased lateral stiffness where you need it, and the cheapest frames use straight-gauge tubing, round and the same thickness all the way—so it's not a "cheap frame" thing.
