Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Path Racer/Grass Track Frames

I'm looking for a path racer frameset (brakeholes, fender eyelets, **** YEA!) to build up as a winter/foul weather bike and I was wondering if anyone knew of any good places to look for them besides ebay. Thanks!

reliability is a must, but there's a lot of value in a bike that you're not going to worry about getting stolen. one that you beat on hard because if something bad happens to the bike you wont lose any sleep.

i just ordered an iro rob roy, which has no bling value but it does have brake holes, canti pegs, fender and rack mounts. a bargain conversion would likely have most of the same.

Kogswell Model G would be a cheap option if you can find one. Not vintage, but I wouldn't want to make a rain bike out of a vintage path frame anyway.

Otherwise I guess I'm gonna also have to bust out the "c" word here.

I have an old Nishiki olympic that was given to me. I had some track ends installed, the frame shaved, powder coated, moustache bars, fenders.
A most gentlemanly foul weather machine. Comfy, and stylish.

As for who I bought it from, locally in SF, I don't think it was the guy you were talking about.

Could try Craigslist.
Just picked up a 1980's Dawes road bike for $80 today.
531, chrome fork, fender eyelets and nice long horizontal dropouts. Only thing nasty on it besides the handlebar wrap are the galvenized spokes on the rear wheel. They will be replaced before appearing in public.
It should be fixified by next weekend.

I'm actually planning to fenderize my current singlespeed frankenmountain bike for the winter.

I'm going to have to second (third, fourth) the Bob Jackson. The Vigorelli has optional eyelets for fenders, etc at no extra cost if you want them. It's my favourite bike and the one I ride the most. Simply comfortable. For the cost, and for what you're looking for, it can't be beat.
