Are Velocity Deep V 32h Rims Strong Enough For NY Riding?
 

considering buying a new pair and wanted to know info if these are the best for the road? i want something aero but if if there is a non aero that is better than these, please tell. My mavic open pros dont hold trued on me. i weigh 185 and need strong wheels. Thanks.

that or the areoheats are good. held up to my fat butt when I was 250 be sure to get a good build on them,.

i have a set of deep v-s and they are pretty bombproof. heavy though.

that said, where are you getting your wheels built? I would think 32 hole OP's could handle a 185# rider no problem.

I'm 180lbs and I ride on 32H Aeroheads.
I should mention that I ride it like my BMX, hopping up and down curbs, wheelieing speed tables and rail tracks constantly. They're holding up just fine.

Yup, they're strong enough for NY. Just get 'em built right.

I weigh about 175 and haven't had a problem with my open pro's. Maybe get them hand built by someone who's really good at wheelbuilding. My wheel set was built by NYC Velo and its been perfect since day 1. Trackstar also builds a damn good wheel, as do many other shops in the city.

I've had no problems with my Open Pros either, running them on 2 of my bikes. Best rims evar.

I weigh 130lbs and I've gone through 5 36h velocity aeroheads in two months. Although you can't really expect wheels to stand up to: taxi cabs, kids jumping out in front of you, and two inch metal grates at 30mph.

Why would NYC demand tougher wheels? I mean, I know what the streets look like in NYC, and they have their issues, but I'd take them any day over what we've got here in Missouri... A good wheel is a good wheel anywhere. A crappy build is a crappy build wherever you ride it, too.

5 rims in two months? Perhaps you should ditch the bike and ride a Segway. It would probably be more cost effective in the long run.

I have 36H velocity Aeroheads that have held up just fine...Just get them built at a good shop.

my fat ass is 250lb and I roll 36H Deep V's on a ride from Harlem to Houston every day and they have held up great.

How bad is NYC street? I never been there, but the streets here (LA) are REALLY REALLY bad.

boston streets are WAY worse than nyc. WAY worse.

LA streets are buttery smooth compared to NY. Witness: moonscape-like potholes, huge metal plates without edging, glass, sinkholes, sudden huge drainage grates...

I started out with 28H Aerohead and triple butted spokes which lasted 2 months - bad rim selection by me - then Zach built the same hubs on Deep V's and they have been flawless since. I'm 190lbs, carry a LOT, ride a LOT, and i still can't fault them.

new york streets suck largely due to trucks and the fact that all utility wires are buried in the street... they are constantly cutting it open to fix **** that's busted

Mr White, that is probably because you have things like bike handling technique, which the OP seems to lack. But that's just me being the usual d!ck...

I had one pair of Velocity v's , That I was disappointed with. THe spoke's nipples pulled through the metal of the rims faster than I had hoped. Always been influened by the mechanic at the shop who replaced them. He said he disliked Velocities' because he's seen this before. Claimed the metal is thin, or sometihing like that.
None the less, on my Surly commuter bike, I put on another set. See how those go. Keep an eye on the eyelets. I had to have someone rescue me, the wheel was so out of true.

i have an masterfully built set of 32h velocity fusions laced to promax hubs that i've been riding hard through nyc for the last year and a half and they've barely gone out of true. i'm around 180, ride brakeless and consider myself pretty hard on wheels.
