Because the OP rather deal with the un-quantifiable pain in pursuing a 170 mm ISO crank vice the quantifiable (and much less expensive) pain of replacing the french BB?

Or maybe the BB is just stuck

hint: New ISO cranks are expensive !

pain of replacing french bb = going to shop, having new threads tapped, then having that warm feeling inside that you dont have to ever think about french bb's ever again

^ or just buy a phil with french cups...
or sheldon sells french cups that can be used with regular spindles.

    what is your spindle length?
Miche cranks are ISO, but they take a ~107mm spindle
all campy cranks are ISO too.

i can't replace the bottom bracket because as you all guessed, it has french threads and i'm not willing to shell out for the phil woods set up when my present bb will work just fine once its overhauled. the spindle is approx. 122mm. it is offset, probably intended for a triple chainring. i figured i could flip it around to work out any chain line issues.

so noone knows of ISO singlespeed cranks for under 100 bucks? those miche ones are pricey as are the campognolo.

anyone ever try throwing JIS square tapers on a ISO bb spindle?

if your spindle is 122mm, then no amound of flipping is going to help you with chainline.
since your cups are OK, just get a new spindle, ISO or JIS then use whatever cheap cranks you can find.

otherwise get a set of used campy road cranks. or old Suginos from the 80's.
