Stole Surly in San Francisco
I have posted in a long time and have even forgotten my original log-in, but tonight I'm in need of some help from the SF crowd that's on here. My bike was stolen tonight from in front of the California culinary academy at the corner of Turk and Polk sometime between 6:15 and 7:30 pm tonight, the 13th.
It's a 61cm gray surly steamroller frame with green brooks saddle, ritchey wcs seatpost, nitto bulllhorn bars wrapped in shiny black deda tape, cinelli groove stem, sugino 75 cranks, the front wheel is a shimano 105 hub w/ mavic ma3 rim, and the rear wheel is dura-ace high flange track hub with black mavic open pro rim.
I don't have a ton of hope of getting it back, but it's a tough loss and this at least makes me feel like I'm doing something. (I did an incident report and a craigslist post also). If somebody happens to see it for sale I'd love to know about it - if you buy it I'll reimburse you for more than you spent. email me at hslateriii (at) hotmail (dot) com. thanks for any help.
edit: my title should have said stolen - not stole - changes the meaning a bit

Man, that's terrible.
So we can all learn from this:
How was your bike locked up?
What kind of lock?
How do you think the b*stards got it?

how did you lock it up? I pass CCA every morning and evening. Seems like a busy block though. That's suck! I will give you a holla if i see crackhead with your bike around tenderloin.

Thanks for the kind words guys. unfortunately no pictures, but it's fairly distinctive to anyone that looks at bikes the way we do. Big gray Surly, bullhorns, one brake on the left side (cross lever).
Someone did respond to my post on craigslist. They saw my bike on Buchanan and lilly(an alley apparently) in Hayes valley area being pushed by two homeless looking types. Hopefully they're planning on selling it and not taking it apart (they're certainly not keeping it to ride, the bastards) - so there was a little glimpse of hope. Keep an eye out for me, and if you can buy it I'd be way more than happy to pay you as well as I can. I'd be most happy to beat the crap out of the thief, but, well, getting my bike back at all would be well worth doing whatever I have to. Thanks guys

Again, please tell us how your bike was locked and how you think they stole it?

standardprocess, it seems like you joined just to post about your bike getting stolen (which sucks, BTW. Hope you get it back). It also seems like you didn't lock your bike. You gotta be more carefull, man...even just for a second.
Here is some light reading for everyone else looking to learn: https://www.bikeforums.net/singlespeed-fixed-gear/200683-how-not-get-your-bike-stolen.html.
