Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Using Quick Release Wheels

I'm new to riding fixed. I picked up a used specialized hardrock that has been converted into a decent road fixie.

I'm now looking to put a new wheelset on it. Any recommendations? I'm not looking to break the bank doing this, as I'm saving to buy a new frame over the winter.

It seems like few, if any, fixie riders have quick releases ontheir wheels. Why is that?

Thanks for any and all help.

Cheers,

Paris

if you have vertical dropouts there is no reason not to use QR wheels but good luck finding any fixed wheels with a hollow axle.(unless you mean single speed not fixed then you can easily find some).

If you have horizontal dropouts it is harder to get a QR tight enough to keep the wheel from sliping forward.
