Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

DAVIDSON CYCLES - What's The Word?

Anyone know stuff about Davidson Cycles?

Good stuff? Better than Don Walker? Tell me true.

My cousin has a Davidson that's taken about 10 Seattle-to-Portlands. He's a big guy, too.

You probably won't find Bill Davidson on bikeforums baiting the hipsters.

It's up to you to decide whether that's a pro or a con.

RG, they are very nice frames, of course. i don't know how they compare to DW's frames. davidson builds a real variety of bikes, as you can see. don's business might be more focused to racing?

i've seen a bunch of davidson's around town, and am lustful every time i see one. i knew a guy who had a 650 track frame built by him. tight. davidson and rodriguez bikes pretty much have the local scene covered.

Bruce davidson has been building for a long time. At one point in time
he was building Eisentraut Limited frames in Oakland.
He is a very respected builder. Better than DW? I'd say different, neither
better nor worse.

My road bike is a lugged steel Davidson. It is really sweet. It's pretty much the same setup as the one below but with a rounded fork crown and internal brake cable routing. Mine's spray painted for some weird reason, but it's otherwise in good shape. I assume it's not hot since I bought in on consignment from the shop that builds em'.

Nice bikes, but a little overpriced (they seem to cater to rich folks). If you're looking at a used one snap it up. If you're thinking of having one built, you can probably find comparable quality for cheaper elsewhere.

I've got one (fixed gear track) that my friend , very good friend at that, gave me.

https://www.fixedgeargallery.com/2006...rickLarson.htm.

Very good welds, from the early 90's. Very stiff though, since it's track geometry. But it's very beautiful.

More on my web site under the gallery. (www dot patricklarson dot com slash gallery).

I have one of their Ti road frames and it is a dream to ride. I'm not sure if its still the case, but when I got mine done they had an FAA approved welder there so the ti contrcution was second to none. The guy made airplane parts as his day job and came in on the weekends to weld bikes for fun.

Very knowledgable staff and Bill is a true master. Will be even better if you can go there for the fitting and talk with Bill about tubing selection and such. He has been doing this for a very long time and really knows his stuff.

My uncle, an avid cyclist for the last ~30 years, currently rides a white Davidson road bike and loves it. Whenever the company comes up in conversation he says

"Any yuppie can ride a Harley, but it takes a real man to ride a Davidson"
