I Like Peeing

I recently took the bar tape off my chrome B-123 bars, and I want to clean them up... I used Velox bartape with an adhesive strip, so now the glue residue is all over them. Does anyone have any experience with Goo Gone on chrome handlebars? And while I'm at it, I'm looking for more comfortable chrome handlebars other than Nitto (preferably Cinelli road drops although I haven't seen them).

I bought some used bars that had this really cushy and REALLY sticky tape on it.. it left tons of gunk.. I just used soapy water and some elbow grease and they cleaned up fine.

I'm sure goo-gone would work fine too though.. I just didn't have any handy.

I use goo gone to clean the handle bars prior to installing new bar tapes.

Goo Gone is awesome. Use a dab behind each ear and a pinch between your cheek and gums.

hell, i used jasco on some bars once. i just made sure to get it all off before putting my hands on there. oh, and i ride with gloves.

i used goo gone on bars and it worked fine. i also used it to take of the velocity sticker off a gold deep v and it took the color off the rim. oops.

The only thing to be careful of with goo gone is getting all of the residue off before re-taping the bars. I like simple green or a citrus degreaser.

GG is amazing stuff to rid of sticky tape residuestick. If you are worried about GG residue, a final wipe with a bit of lighter fluid will do the trick. If using WD40, definitely wipe with lighter fluid afterwards (for taping applications)

Goo Gone is not lighter fluid, feels more like a citrus oil product, not exactly sure what it is, but am sure that it is not lighter fluid

i would substitute rubbing alcohol (which may work in the first place) for the lighter fluid mentioned above.

if you want the same result but don't want to spend extra cash use some of your significant other's nail polish remover. works fine.

I just take a rag and pour same gasoline on it then just rub down the bars. Worked like a charm. Got a mild buzz. Killed some braincells. Yeah...

when i took my bar tape off after having it on there for about a year, there was goo all over it. i tried using rubbing alcohol to take off the stuff, but it seemed to leave tiny pitmarks in the bars, as if it had some how chemically burned into the metal where the goo had been. i thought i was going crazy when it happened...i thought it was just stuck on there good so i used some fine grain steel wool to try and scrub it. but then i really became convinced they were little pockmarks, and that the steel wool wouldn't help that.

am i crazy? has anyone else had bars that became pock-marked from handle bar tape or removal with rubbing alcohol?
