Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Bianchi San Jose single speed

Anyone on board with comments on the Bianchi San Jose road single speed?
https://www.bianchiusa.com/07_san_jose.html

They list it in their cyclocross line so technically I guess it wouldn't be considered straight road bike. Anyone ride own one or ride one? Should I perhaps consider another maker's single speed road bike? Thanks.

I haven't ridden one, but a LBS had one for a while. Seemed like a pretty nice bike, but it is *definitely* for cyclocross. If you want a straight road bike, consider something else.

It's not fixed-capable right out of the box. But otherwise, I've heard nothing but good reviews.

I own an '06 SJ and it's a great commuter. I had to get a different set of wheels (fixed/free) with road tires, but other than that, the bike is great to ride both on the road and off-road.

I just got one, the '07. Nice smooth ride, very comfortable, and decent components. Plenty of room for racks and fenders. I swapped the rear wheel for a phil wood/open pro... the stock wheels are heavy. Also the stock cranks (Sugino XD) are kinda flexy so I put on some Sugino 75s. Honestly I'll probably keep upgrading for a while, but that's more of a fun project than a problem... Anyway the frame is great. Highly recommended for loaded/long distance/comfortable riding.
