Accident
So, two weeks ago a fat **** jumps out into the bike lane and as I swerve to avoid hitting him my wheel catches on something and sends me and my bike flying. My bike landed ontop of me, which is kind of good because she is unscathed, but I fractured my pelvis in two places and have been in a wheelchair for two weeks and just found out yesterday I'll probably be in it for another four! Four weeks of no walking (and more importantly, to me, NO riding)= me going out of my mind!
SOOOOOO...
I would like people to post things/stories that will make me feel better about my injury (please avoid the obvious "you're lucky you're alive" line, I know I am and thank god for percocet because living would SUCK right now without it) OR names of books I should read or movies I should watch. My family was so totally appalled by the fact that I was living dvdless that they pitched in a bought me a dvd player AND in my boredom I have researched/learnedabout/set up a NetFlix account!

I ruptured my Achilles Tendon in Feburary (playing basketball). I didn't ride again until June. And even then, it was painful as f*ck. I still have a limp.

Have you read: The Only Meaning of the Oil-Wet Water ?
Oh yeah 165, I like beertrackGo, reading it every couple weeks isa nice break; one of the few intelligently written things I experience due to being buried in textbooks.

I just realized that I didn't offer much help in my first post.
Roll playing video games always kill several hours at a time. I don't know what's hot right now.
Just don't over-do it. (I once tried to cast a "stop" spell on my alarm clock one morning. Don't ask).

Shiftless bum
On the upside, pelvic fractures often heal with no residual impairment. A friend of mine got squished when a horse fell on her and she's fine (and there is some research that supports my previous statement more than anecdote ). Video gaming is a good escape for me. I'm a little behind and kind of partisan to make recommendations, but God of War and VirtuaFighter Evo have eaten up a fair bit of my life. Okay, now I'm depressed....

I badly need carpal tunnel surgery. I'm putting it off because it'll mean 4-6 months with no riding. How am I possibly supposed to voluntarily not ride for that long?

165: you into philosphy? I enjoy Dostoevsky.. have you ever read I and Thou by Buber? Good stuff..
I feel down a flight of brick steps when I was 2 years old and I have a scar on my forehead that has never gone away and never will. *cry*
Anyway, here are some books and movies:
Books:
Any book by Tom Robbins, especially good ones are Jitterbug perfume, Fierce Invalids Home from Hot Climates and Still Life with Woodpecker
God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater by Vonnegut (or any other Vonnegut, that one is just one of my personal favs)
The Castle by Kafka
Brave New World by Huxley
Lost Languages: The Enigma of the World's Undeciphered Scripts by Andrew Robinson (really awesome.. might be pretty time consuming (a good thing) if you don't know much about linguistics.)
Movies:
Carnal Knowledge
Wet Hot American Summer
Shaolin Soccer
Beverly Hills Cop
Breaking Away, Quicksilver or Triplets of Bellville if you haven't seen'em...
The Baxter
The Big Lebowski
Irreversable
Tout Va Bien
Singing in the Rain
Pump Up the Volume
Happy Endings
Pink Flamingos
Swing Girls
Unforgiven or any of the many Eastwood movies, Two Mules for Sister Sarah is also good.
Sex and Lucia
And don't forget to watch Waynes World 1 and 2 until you know every word.
Um, I also recomment getting sucked into Lost. Season 1 and 2 are out on DVD and season 3 starts the 4th of October. I hate my friend for leaving that **** at my house.. hahaha!
Ps. get better or some **** like that..

Learn to knit or whittle. Time-consuming hobbies that require endless patience are a great way to come out of these things. Best of luck in your recovery.

Damn, that sucks, heal up fast. Here is an obnoxiously long list:
Books:
White Teeth, by Zadie Smith
I 2nd the Dave Eggers and Dostoevsky, also Tom Robbins and Vonnegut are easy, entertaining reads
I also 2nd Gogol, Rushdie, hooks, Kundera and Swift
Any collection of short stories by Chekhov and/or Kafka
The Key and Diary of an Old Man by Junichiro Tanizaki
The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy
Their Eyes were Watching God by Zora Neal Hurston
If on a Winter's Night, a Traveler by Italo Calvino
Pride and Prejudice (or pretty much everything by her) by Jane Austen
East of Eden by John Steinbeck
And if you have patience and lots of time, Proust is totally worth the effort (I'd start with the 2nd volume though)
Okay, that should keep you busy for the next year...
I'm not as up on my movies as I am on my books, but if you haven't yet seen it, you should watch The Triplets of Bellville.
Me and You and Everyone We Know
Little Miss Sunshine
Also, Wallace and Grommit is hillarious and wonderful and will make you feel good about life.
Amazon Women on the Moon (thanks for the reccomendation Chris, it rocked!)
Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room
The Corporation
Also, rent every single one of Eddie Izzard's stand up comedy DVDs, cause that guy is the best

when i was out of the game for a week after my only major accident, i spent all of my time zonked out on pain meds, playing grand theft auto.
watching dvd box sets of tv shows can kill an afternoon or two, or three, or many more depending on the show... just get that 14-disk monty python's flying circus boxed set and you'll be good to go.

Nip Tuck is amazing. I basically love any show short of Soap Operas that are just too dramatic for their own good.

If only I had a TV, I guess... and some time and interest. I lie, I have interest. If that show's still going on, I would probably go see it somewhere.

Then again, I think Bring It On is an awesome movie, too. I never watch TV or see movies or know what's going on in that whole world, so anything I watch appears fascinating. Oh well, at least I'm always satisfied that way. I haven't been in a movie theatre since BATMAN RETURNS.

I haven't had cable in four years, I never know what anybody around the office is talking about. Especially when they ask me if I've seen that commercial where ________.
