Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Track-Bikes should be banned from the streets of San Francisco? I personally think Track-Bikes with out brakes are ****ing stupid...unless I am riding them.

See the "I Hit A Ped" thread for my thoughts on people who can't stop their bikes in a dangerous situation.

Banned? No. De-popularized? Absolutely...the world is waiting for the day.

just redefine the law as "failure to stop". If you can stop, great. If you can't, you get run over.

HAHA!

Nothing wrong with MF Doom except the overblown hype.

Also, he doesn't ride a fixed gear!!! (unverified)

I agree - juvi-kyle should be the only one with the license to ride his track bike without a brake in the city limits of San Francisco. Track-Bikes are now banned from the streets of San Francisco. Thank you and now, carry on.

Well they better not here in SF! As I have already stated juvi-kyle has placed a ban on brakeless track bikes in the city limits and only he can lift it. The Scissor Sisters have been warned.

they should just start requiring licences for bike riders. 98% of human beings are complete morons, so any bike craze is going to be dangerous, because for every 2 people safely riding, you have 98 people with their heads firmly up their asses.

Since it undermines your rights as a vehicle to run without a secondary brake (rim brake) it is irresponsible to ride without one. Not necessarily for yourself (which has always been the confusion) but for the sake of all cyclists. In most US cities cyclists are automatically ticketed when a accident happens. They always take the heat, even when it is the drivers fault.

Why make the situation worse by riding a questionable or illegal vehicle (check local statutes)?

If you want bikes to have rights, run a brake. Otherwise the law will be against you even when you go to court.

Don't forget to contest every ticket you get. DO NOT PAY THEM it is an admission of guilt.

(on a related note, this is the same reason that dc couriers do not ride in crit mass. It undermines their good relationship with local cops). Therefore the same people who think they are advocationg cyclists rights are often working against them.

It's also easier on the knees.
