Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Quick basic question

Is the lockring left-hand threaded? Do you turn clockwise to loosen it?

It's really tight on, any tips on how to loosen without losing skin on my fingers?

I could also use some tips on how to remove the cog.

Thanks.

lockring is reversed, so it goes 'righty loosy, lefty tighty'... or you know, clockwise to loosen.
assuming you've got a lockring tool, just make sure it's on tight and turn like hell. eventually it'll break free.

i just went through hell with my cog a month or two ago. theres a thread someplace here about it. if you've got a chain whip it might work, but i ended up having to rotofix it to get it off. if you need help on that, holler.

I do a very thin layer on the threads of the cog. Make sure you wipe it off the lockring threads on the hub once it's on.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that expected a qBASIC question.
