Do A Search.....
I have tried to use the seach from time to time and find it to useful about 20% of the time.
I understand that alot of stuff has been covered over the years and there is a lot of info on here even if it is a ***** to find.
so if you don't feel like answering a question thats been posted before ...don't... but do you have to be an A$$ about it.....no you don't.
how many wheel set questions do you see a week and they still get answered so......
lighten up people it's for fun not for a grade
help each other out with out being so rude if we wanted the kinda attitude we would go to the bike shops.
thanks and have a nice day

I have created 9 threads in SS/FG since I joined in 2004. Some people are very lazy and expect other people to search the internet for them. I am not one of these people. I find the search tool effective 90% of the time, hence why I don't often create threads. Sometimes it takes a little while but its my time I am wasting, not other people's. Most of these threads really are pointless. So is this one. Hopefully next time someone creates a redundant thread and someone calls them on it they will actually use the search tool next time. Learn some boolean search techniques. They really help.
https://www.bikeforums.net/search.php?searchid=3053194
I don't think I would have created ANY of these threads, because the information is already very available in the archives and on the net.

this is not only an information resource, but a discussion forum...in the case of referencing information, you are right (search will do you well most of the time), but people also like having recent discussions with people who are currently browsing the forums...
so instead of adding onto a 10page thread, one might pose a question to start a new one
shiet, maybe 's cause they are lazy...oh well, nothing wrong with that
anyways
I agree that people OD with the "do a search" response, but even this debate is pointless
things will continue as it...some will search, others won't...and " do a search" will continue to aggrivate internet nerves, just as redundant threads will

i think all-in-all most people on this board aren't exactly interested in the most effcient way to extract information on a given topic. they enjoy the discussion, the back and forth of ideas, and above all like to participate and ask\answer questions in semi-real time.
sometimes i find myself getting a little annoyed when a new thread pops up on something very common, but then i realize that i'm probably spending waaaaay too much time here.

i think it's pretty obnoxious to just yell "SEARCH!" but saying "searching the forums for ______ will give you some helpful information" really is not that bad, and i do it to remind people that this forum isn't just a forum, there's lots of resources in the archives.
i found this forum by googling bike stuff and having its archives always come up in the search results.

Had I known the whole word was going to turn to using computers and such,
I would have gone to english and typing class.
however they were both after lunch.
and I could stop getting high/drunk at lunch, and never made it.
but thanks for the lesson teach.

"i have tried to use the search" isn't the passive voice. "the search has been used" is the passive voice, no? "have tried" is just a different tense that i forgot to remember from spanish class in high school (cause come on, we did not learn that **** in english).

Teaching search techniques should be required in high school (most elementary school kids know it).

That said, I agree that searching the archives isn't always the best option. Most topics change over time so reading old threads might not have current information. There also might be new users who can add more information that wasn't available at the time. However, it's a good idea to at least familiarize yourself with a topic first so that you can ask more specific questions, which many users don't seem to bother themselves with.
