The mustard langster bike was part of the powdercoat group buy in (semi-disaster).
The answer is yes, you can make normal ol'powdercoat stick to carbon components. That mustard fork in particular had the paint sandblasted off, and as noted in the caption, the powdercoater walked into a room sized oven heated to 450 or so degrees and sprayed the fork by hand so the powder liquefied mid-air between the gun and the fork.
Weird, but it worked.

you can paint carbon fiber, but youd have to bring it some place that knows how since the paint will flex.

Just rub your fork against a carpet for awhile before hitting up the powder-coater.

Since this thread has already caught the 4pm crazy bus, I'll add that carbon conducts electricity. This probably doesn't actually mean anything for this application, but there you go.

I was watching the Disco channel the other day, apparently they use ground nut shells for sandblasting stuff too soft for actual sand. Not sure if that's how they'd do CF or what.

why? The resin beneath is much harder than the paint it's covered with, and the media our guy used was teeeenny-tiny glass beads, about the consistency of flour. It's a pretty precise method.

OP, Powder coating involves magnetically charging the item and the paint is positively attracted to it. Then baked on. CF cannot be charged. You can paint it but not powder coat and I sure as h3ll wouldn't sandblast it.

Edit:I guess I'm a slow typer

Painting CF cannot be a problem: to cut weight, all Mercedes' E-Class has a carbon fiber hood and BMW's M6 has a CF roof, all painted to match with the same paint.

yeah cause it's not like uv has any chance of damaging the cf and especially not after you strip it.

You can definitely paint CF no problem (lots of carbon forks come this way), but the OP is asking about powder coating...

Carbon fibre is conductive, so you could probably get the powder to stick, but unless you knew a lot about the resin used to make the part, i wouldn't be sticking it an oven (same with aluminum).

Besides, powdercoating is thick and heavy, I dunno why you'd want it on a bike...

Too true. All those powder-coated bikes out there are total mistakes.

Wait a second...you mean my beater car has a carbon-fibre roof??? I wonder how many grams that shaves off the old model.

I ran a powder coating shop for 3 years, worked there for 6. Theres powders that use a UV oven for powdercoating woods, plastics, CARBON FIBER, and various other materials that wont stand up to a conventional oven. They are just as strong and look the same as regular powder coating.

Prolonged exposure to UV rays is what breaks down carbon fiber, not 20minutes in a UV oven. Everyone freaks out about how carbon breaks down in the sun. Well, so does DAMNED NEAR EVERYTHING. Imcluding your own skin, but you will still let that unimportant organ sit in the sun all day.
