Eggbeaters with standard SPD cleats???

Eggbeaters with standard SPD cleats???
I'm riding regular spd pedals now for commuting and have a few pairs of shoes with spd cleats that I use for my ss. I'd like to use Crankbros Eggbeaters on the fixie I am trying to build, but probably won't if I have to get new cleats for all these shoes (too much $$$) - I've heard that spd cleats work with eggbeaters, but that seems suspect. Anyone have any real experience with this??

ummm...if you buy a set of eggbeaters they'll come with the cleats you need. can't you just use one pair of shoes for that bike?

i suggest old-school straps with sneakers, at least if you're on a fixie.
yeah it's not as efficient, but less can go wrong, which is a big deal if you're on a fixed with no brakes. sure, the straps can break, but the cleats have more moving parts, etc.
just my $0.02.

I think the OP wants not just one set, but a set of cleats for ALL his different pairs of cycling shoes. That said, you can't use the cleats interchangeably.

Eggbeaters are truly great if you have the cash. You will get addicted. Keep away from the cheap Crank Brothers or just buy the look 4x4.

The bearings give up in 3 months time. But if you are unlucky the wings will just snap off. You can actually see the weak spot even when they are brand new. The SL and the Looks dont have this flaw. The Look should have better bearings as well. That is my next choice.

I got a pair of the Candy C's and put that on one bike, while keeping some SPDs on another bike. After riding them for a couple of weeks side to side, I opted to get eggbeaters to replace the SPDs. SPDs are fine enough, but the 'beaters are just way better.
