kind of ot-carrying large objects
 

I am trying to figure out how to carry a 35 lb bag of dog food. I can carry the weight, but i cannot figure out how to carry the bulk. Maybe carfree would be a better forum, but I have no rack, just bags, none of which are near big enough. This is more of a personal challenge to myself, I can always just drive, but it's only 35 blocks away. thanks for any input.

i carried a 30 lbs bag of catfood yesterday. stick it in your bag. it'll be coming out the top so just extend your straps as far as they'll go and wrap em around the bag a bit.

here's an idea. dunno if 35 pounds would be too much - i kind of doubt it - but what i did once was stick a stem on to my seatpost, extending backwards, and put a set of longish bullhorns back there, sticking backwards again. make sure the stem is long enough so you don't hit yr thighs. then, duct tape, or canvas/nylon/whatever straps, or however you choose to attach stuff to your improvised rack.

make a little trailer out of a skateboard. tie up or tape the bag to the top of the board, the weight should be enough to keep it from bouncing around. then tie the board to your seat post and tow it home. your dog will love you.

throw on a flat bar, wtih aero bars at the centre, and old bar ends at the ends..

I carry my dog's food on top of my head.

towing anything that's tied to you bike never works...it runs up on the side whenever you slow down, and you'll lose it at every turn.

maybe you should just get a rack. i transport dog food all the time like that, i just strap it down.

You don't need a bag, the food comes in it's own bag. You just need a way to secure the bag to your body. You could take a roll of duct tape and have one of the store employees tape it to you.

anyone know of a cheaper version of the BOB trailer?

although it doesn't look like it has the axle-nut adapters the BOB makes to fit on a solid axle.

get a Chrome Kremlin messenger bag http://chromebags.com/kremlin.php and it may solve the issue. I carried a 24 pack water bottle case in it. it was very tight and uncomfortable to right with cuz of bulk but to think it could carry all that is crazy

I think that is the best suggestion yet.

take 4 yards of duct tape, cut in two, double each over. Tape one end of each to the top of the bag, one end to the bottom. Viola! instant dogfood backpack! You'll probably have to tape around the bag a few times to keep the straps on.

Why invent ways to carry stuff that are less efficent than the standard, and seek these soulutions from a less knowedgeable source?

Definitely just strap it to yourself, I've carried way over 35 pounds of crap in a backpack, and about that size.



You get smaller bags of dog food than my family did, but we had a car.

I firmly believe that duct tape should never be used in such a fancy manner. I would do it like this: 3 pieces around the torso/bag. 4 pieces making an x shape, over one should and under the opposite arm. Easy cheesy Japanezy.

Forget those car free people, they all have xtracycles and ****.

tie it to your back with rope and net or just ballance it on your bars and top tube like you would a bankers box

and invest in a bigger bag
