FUJI Tracks

Another from me yeah. So this shop here is having a blow out on Fuji tracks. Going for about 300 bucks complete. As i mentioned in another thread, I had thought about getting my wife an IRO. But this is SO cheap for the Fuji i thought. Ive never paid these things much attention really and am wondering if anyone on here is rolling one. What do you think of it? The hubs seem a little lame lame.
The ones they have are the black and grey, apparently 06s.

Its a good starter bike and worth the money. I'd say go for it...but based on countless threads that have been started on this forum regarding this bike (including the same bike rebranded as a Windsor "the hour", and other bikes in this price range with similar components) there are two serious concerns.
#1 make sure the cog and lockring are installed correctly....they both must be properly tightened with the appropriate tools or the hub will strip.
#2 make sure the wheels are properly trued and tensioned or you will soon need new wheels.

Be sure of this when you buy it and you might even take it to another shop (or bike knowledgable friend if you have one) and have them make sure the bike is properly asembled. If you do those two things, you should be able to ride this bike for many miles without any serious trouble.

edit: also put a front brake on it...don't kill yourself

cant beat it for the price. i have an 06 and the matte black is hotness. do it.

youth 12-26-06 09:39 PM

i've been riding my 06 hard for a 13 months, did some mess work on it and have been adding to/taking from and learning with it the whole time. i'm still happy with it, though i can't wait to build my own bike...

Thanks, yeah i think the stem that comes on it is a little weird.

john_and_off 12-26-06 10:02 PM

did the fuji track ever come with a threadless stem or has it always been threaded? is my memory playing tricks on me?

The Fuji Track Pro is threadless, but the regular Track is threaded. I have an older one (yellow/red 03?) that I got as a frame/fork/+ from ebay. I probably spent too much on it, but they don't make the jumbo 64cm size anymore. The only stock still on mine is the frame, fork, and seatpost. It's maiden voyage should be tomorrow!!

Speaking of it does anybody have an old Fuji catalog/broc. that lists the dimensions for the 64cm Fuji Track or know where I could find them. I would love to know angles, tt and st measurement, wb, and fork rake.

DerekRI 12-26-06 10:55 PM

their website goes back many years.. check there

Hey post a pic if you have it. :)

666pack 12-27-06 01:06 AM

go for it. a friend of mine wants me to help him pick out his first fixed bike with christmas money, and i've been considering a windsor "the hour" for him. can't beat the price, three hundo is a pretty good price for a reliable track bike.

godless scum 12-27-06 01:22 AM

i got an '03 frame set a while back. with good components on it, it's actually a pretty nice bike. i feel like it's lighter than my '05 pista beater that i had previous to it. the fuji's u-crown fork isn't nearly as offensive, either. i can't vouch for the stock components, obviously, but the frame is rad. just watch the measurements, mine is a so called "58" but thats because fuji uses the c-t-t instead of the more common c-t-c measurement. just clarify what you're getting from the dealer.

billypilgrim 12-27-06 01:24 AM

i have an 05 frame laying around... the hub proved itself to be disastrously weak - a friend was riding it and whilst skidding downhill, the lockring stripped, the cog came loose, and aforementioned friend fred flintstoned himself to safety. i felt terrible, as i had loaned it to him while his frame was repaired. that said, i am impressed by the lightness of the frame, and with a good wheelset and drive train i am sure it would make a good ride.

scotthorrigan 12-27-06 02:03 AM

i've also got this bike...i swaped out some components but all in all its a good bike.... and for some reason... it just feels ....FUN to ride.

deathhare 12-27-06 06:58 AM

Thanks for all the comments. I just found out theyre actually 2007 models theyre selling at this price. Seems an even better deal....although i know theyre the same bike..just different color.

Dersu Burrows 12-27-06 08:11 AM

I have an '05 fuji track, only stock components are the frame, fork and bb. I really like the bike, I ride the crap out of it and have crashed several times, inculding one 25+mph crash at the track with no frame damage. The frame is good. And light. I got the frame, fork, bb, headset and seatpost for $265 so that deal seems really good for a complete bike. I believe it comes with formula hubs now so hopefully the hub problems people experienced with the '06 has been rectified.

celephaiz 12-27-06 08:14 AM

I have the 04. I didnt strip the stock hub but the spokes popped on a daily basis so i replaced with a surly hub laced to a mavic rim and the stock cog stripped the hub while sprinting from a stop. I replaced the cog with an eai, flipped the wheel and havent had any problems since. I also have little left that is stock (headset, frame fork, seatpost). But i would say but that at $300, if you have to replace the rear wheel cog in a month, fine you're still coming out ahead.

2manybikes 12-27-06 08:53 AM

It's worth that price for sure. Have the spokes tensioned by a pro as soon as you get it to prevent spoke problems. Great frame nice and stiff, great crank nice and stiff. The hubs are poor. My rear hub bent the axle somehow. I put on Suze ProMax with the original rims, no problems. Of course it's not so cheap any more.

I Like Peeing 12-27-06 10:09 AM

Wow, $300 is cheap. I think they look nice, I like how Merciers look too... Everyone I know that has one of these rides it hard, and complains about the bike, but continues to ride it.

I Like Peeing 12-27-06 10:10 AM

Oh yeah, get it. And take the advice about the cogs/wheels. I know three people that have rolled the cogs right off during their time riding one. Use brakes.

What do they complain about?

Mainly the drive train sucking. It's wise to check the cog/lockring before starting out on one. Some spider/chainring issues have come up, too. Again, check to see that the chainring bolts are tight every so often to prevent the rings from turning circles to ovals.

Thanks.

For $300, even if you have to swap out the wheels (realistically, something you're going to want to do with any cheaper fixie you buy pre-built), it's a pretty badass deal. Plus it saves you all the trouble of getting even ****tier used parts on a frame (which will probably run you at least $300) while you wait for sweet deals on wheels and a better drive train etc.

But yeah. Watch the hubs...
