Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Recommended NYC Bike Shop(s)?

I'm new to the ss/fixed world. Was lookin' for a bike shop I can grow with.

I started with BikeWorks NYC. Seemed like a decent staff, if not very brief and not helpful. Good shop if you know what you want and talk "the talk" I guess - if you are new to the game...avoid. Just my personal experience.

MetroCycles on 88/lex is cool. Staff is super cool and will help you along the way and a great bunch of guys. Downside, they don't have a lot of track/ss bikes.

I'm an older guy so I'm not lookin' to be a hipster or anything, I just enjoy the simplicity of ss bikes. Would like to find a good bike shop that can help me build a great ride or fit me for a complete setup that I can tweak as needed along the way. Oh and more importantly, a staff that is willing to help someone new.

Cheers.

I'll second suggestion for NYC Velo. Not SS/FG specialist, but they know what they're doing and have a clean shop.
