Dexter Benjamin: Fixed NYC
Want to shout out Dexter, profiled this past week by AM NY.
This guy has passed me at speed on madison ave. Always great to see him!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jOG83-TwIuM http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...ly_01/dweb.jpg http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...y_01/d1web.jpg |
truly inspirational. i have much respect for him.
|
huh, rear brake only..
|
yea. when I first saw a clip on him on youtube I was blown away. This guy has gone through so much but always has a positive outlook on his life and life in general. Makes the problems I deal with seem like nothing.
Kudos for the message he sends out without knowing he's doing it. |
Such incredible balance! Unfortunately they didn't include any clips of him hauling ass, so what would you qualify as "at speed", Squid?
|
wow, he doesnt have much of an option other than to go fixed. he needs left side drive, and he needs the pedal to come back up on its own on the upstroke since there is no other leg to push it up. works out perfectly.
edit: I guess he doesnt NEED LSD, but he shaves the weight of a NDS crankarm this way. |
He was in Bicycling magazine years ago.
Some stupid thief stole his bike. Then saw him and noticed he needed left side drive and tried to sell it back to him ! Now that's a stupid bike thief. |
thanks for sharing this kevin
|
I named my first conversion dexter after him...
|
There's a great documentary on him on YouTube that someone posted awhile back.
|
|
He made headlines a few years ago after fighting with a 300-pound transexual on the subway?
What? |

Yeah, I saw a clip of Dexter a while back and sent it to just about everyone I know...seeing him ride reminds me how lazy I am and how I'm prone to making excuses or just giving up. It reminds me of the old addage; Circumstances don't make the man, they reveal him. |
any of you ever seen Pedal?
tons of interviews with not-so-average messengers great dvd and a great coffee table book. http://www.powerhousebooks.com/art/s06/pedalcvr.jpg |
