The police here haven't given me or anyone else I know a problem about having no brakes, and there ten times as many police around Tokyo this week because of the G8 summit (even though the summit is being held hundreds of miles from here, in Hokkaido).

No problems here also but I live out of the main central Tokyo area.

My beater Vivalo, with brakes attached. Taken yesterday at the Imperial Palace. Sunday is normal bicycle-only day at the palace, but, again, with the G8 summit, bike day was canceled. I still went out to enjoy the day.

Man, so jealous. I haven't made it into town with my bike yet because there's not really a convenient route from where I am. Also haven't messed with the whole "take bike on train" concept, especially since there is simply no room for it on those sardine cans they call trains. It must be peaceful to coast (or not) through the Imperial Palace on a Sunday afternoon...

I sold that to you in Kasai. How do you like it? We should go for a ride.

We're gonna hold out on the place, temporarily, but are still looking. I have a single speed GT Peace that I'm riding now so I'm good to go. If this sunday is a decent day I was thinking of checking out the Imperial Palace Ride.

I wish I could go this Sunday. My birthday is this month, and my GF booked a room for us at a ryokan in Kanagawa for Sunday and Monday. We'll go to the palace next Sunday if the weather allows. There's supposedly a bike shop in Akasaka (near the palace) that I'd like to check out as well.
We're planning on riding to hanabi at Asakusa on the 26th, you should check that out if you can.

I'd be down for a sunday ride as well, just not this sunday. My uncle and cousin will be in town for a medical conference and we're doing the 'climb fuji' thing.

You can email me or call me, we'll work out the plans later. I'm still trying to figure out the best place to watch from, I'll probably ride up there next week to scope it out. We'll probably go early, more than a million people came last year, so finding a good spot will be difficult if we arrive too late. There is plenty of food and beer served (there are food stalls set up everywhere, and beer vendors carry kegs on their backs and bring the beer to you), it should be a good time,

Typical mamachari in Shibuya. Actually, it is closer to Yoyogi park. There is a Cycly (www.cycly.co.jp) shop in that area that sells some crazy used bikes- track frames, carbon racers, vintage colnagos, all just kinda piled together in the shop. The same campy wheel pictured here is also displayed in the store window. Sorry for grainy cell phone photo..

Oh, and one more. By the way, anyone know what the forks are on the red bike? Seems to have a mini suspension/swingarm type thing right near the tips.

If I was trying to buy a full NJS track bike off Yahoo Jp auctions from a seller willing to ship to the US and I didn't care about frame brand (Bridgestone, Panasonic and Vivalo are all cool with me), how much could I expect to pay hypothetically? I size up 53-55cm.
