Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

PGH roll call

I'm just trying to figure out who's who from Pittsburgh here and who I know and who I don't.

So just post a quick intro and whatever, and what kind of bike you ride so I can figure it out.

I'm Steve, and while not currently in Pittsburgh, and am most likely returning in September for a good long while. I've got a purple, white and orange DeBernardi track bike blah blah, used to work at Gatto, blah blah, threw the Stairway to Hell race a month ago, go to Pitt, miss O Fries and will come back to visit as soon as there is an alleycat.

So who are you?

I SAWD UR BIKE AT TEH LIBARRY 2DAY!!!

Really though...I saw your pedalcycle at the Carnegie Library today. I was checking out a CD of Mozart Symphony No. 40 in G minor. I don't know why that's relevant, but now you know that I like Mozart (well, it's for a class, but anyway).

Also, Irish wolfhounds are my favorite dogs of all time. Can I come over and play with them?

Anyway, I'm Will, I ride a ghetto ass conversion while I finish building up my Rush. It's blue, formerly yellow-tired, also with a fender, tied on with about 2 feet of tube.

To the OP, one time you were riding with a buddy up Negley. You passed me as I turned into my house. I had my entire head wrapped in a scarf because it was ****ing cold that day. That's quite an eye-catching bike you've got there.

EDIT: While we're mentioning pets, I should say that I got a hamster on Sunday. She's the cutest thing ever, her name is Ainslie, and I am in love.

EDIT EDIT: I go to Duquesne. M.M. in music theory to be conferred this May.

I'm Kevan and I moved here from Cincinnati last July. I work downtown at an architecture firm and can usually be seen riding a large Surly Steamroller mornings and evenings. I can also be identified by my royal blue long sleeve wool jersey, yellow-and-olive striped messenger bag, and dashing good looks.

I'm also trying to form a PGH Hill Climbers' Club. You really should join. Yeah, you.

EDIT:
...and this is my cat, Gus.

I find black bikes to be really really boring. However yours is one of the nicest bikes I've seen, period. It's gotta be that electric blue.

Amazing cat! I kittensat over winter break a shorthaired version of Gus and he was CRAZY. Running nonstop, pouncing, fighting with his brother and digging into my food. I'm always jealous of orange cat owners.

Sure...Irish Wolfhound rides for all. The little guy in the front is now 8 months old and 126lbs. His lady friend in the rear is 1.6 years old. They are both fixed.

I was thinking about these giant dogs today, because I saw a guy walking one in Squirrel Hill, and it occurred to me that I own a skateboard, and you probably own leashes...

so.......can I?

Or if that doesn't work, we can leash up Kevan's cat.

I'm Dan, I have no distinguishing features, and my bike is awaiting disposal at the hands of an insurance adjuster. Although I found out today that my ACS is merely sprained, not torn (as far as they can tell presently anyway), so I hope to be out and about soon.

I am up for this hill climbing club of which you speak. I love hills.

Said vasectomy wasnt from a broken dropout, by chance? Shortly after I got back to school, I was riding the bike up the street when the under load, the wheel suddenly hit the chainstay and I almost slammed the top tube. I eventually realized that the drive side drop out cracked and the rear axle shifted when I put down adequate force. Thus, the frame has been sitting collecting dust until I get enough initiative to order equipment and learn how to braze track ends. Im also going to call the paint job a wash despite the previous owner s (you??) lovely forest green touch up job. When I originally got the frame I was so surprised to see a lugged anything in the rafters and asked honestly if it was ok that I take it. I didnt think I was worthy enough for the one nice steel frame of the group!

That sucks... It was fine when I had it (just a size or two too big for me), although I was running it as a geared bike and probably wasn't torquing too hard. Well, Free Ride has welding gear for when you triumphantly return with track ends in hand.

Hm.. I've been silently lurking around here for a couple of days now but how could I not post to this thread? I'm not really from Pittsburgh but live an hour north in Beaver Falls. I have, however, ridden around the city a couple of times, participated in Critical Mass, wrenched on my bike at Free Ride and even got a hamburger at the Bloomsfield Bridge Tavern. Does that make me Pittsburgh enough?

I ride an older Apollo frame that I got for free and my dog looks like this:

I ride cheap bikes from the thrift store and just like working on them mostly...I got a gf and got her into bikes...I'm building up a beater for racing madison...anybody else want to? I'm also trying to start a biweekly series with sponsers, just gotta get off my ass

How about brunch and bikes next Saturday (1-27-06), though? Meet up for a morning ride then go to a restaurant or to somebody's pad and have food? PM me if anybody is interested?

Fug... totally missed this on the first go round. Raincheck?
Also, I have a pic now, for future identification purposes.

Riding on Saturday never materialized, don't worry.

Cool picture, though.

Edit: Nice Sovtek head, too.
