To answer your original question I used this method for some very technical crit racing: https://draco.acs.uci.edu/rbfaq/FAQ/8b.21.html Granted I was only doing cat 5 races but they had some nice off camber high speed turns. I don't know of any riding I would be able to do to test the glue better.

What (reasonably priced) tires do you recommend? This is all new to me.

I have been riding the Tufo S33 Special for a year now with no flats. High durability and middle of the road performance. Vittoria Corsa EVO CX can be had from probikekit.com for very reasonable rates.
I get my Tufos from biketiresdirect.com. $39.95 per tire for the S33 Special plus shipping (I think for orders over $75 they offer free ground shipping). The Vittorias are $44.95 each shipped (prices drop with each additional tire purchased) from PBK
