Exustar ATAC copies - any reviews?

Just saw these fellows at nashbar for $25 - the Exustar E-PM30T

Advertised as 'ATAC compatible'- looks to be the same system and the price is right (and the cleats are $5 as opposed to $20). I like my ATACs but thought these might be worth getting for a spare. Thoughts? Is Exustar stuff in general OK or junk?

Are the cleats brass or steel? I would be wary of using normal brass ATAC cleats on the square edged steel cage of these pedals.
Really, it just looks like a SPD clone modified to accept ATAC cleats.
I'm usually a pretty big fan of quality knock-offs and trickle down tech, but with my experience with cheapie pedals, I'd steer clear from these.

25 bucks is hard to beat, but I have a pair of Exustar shoes that are extremely poorly made and that seemed like a hard to beat 25 buck buy at the time. For $5 I might try the cleats though.

I have a pair of cheap wellgo spuds that swore me off clipless for a long time. Until I got a pair of used atacs cheap, and now I've got 4 sets of them.

Hmm, good question:

If it's brass, it's painted... and as you'd expect, no actual pertinent info on the product listing.

I really like my atacs; too bad that even trashed aliums are going on ebay for like $45 of late. Maybe it's time to take advantage of the pricepoint.com 2/$105 dealie...

the question is: why would you need or want to paint over brass?

If those are steel I wonder how fast they would trash a pair of real atacs.

Aliums are more like $90, but Spicer has 'em for $60.
