i havent had too many nashbar branded products but i very much like my performance gloves, jersey, and jacket.

overall as a business to buy from (now 1 entity, supposedly) i prefer nashbar

It depends on what it is. You just have to know what you are buying.

They don't actually make anything. And it is now the same company.

it's the same company, and they source stuff from many of the same factories. Performance brand is supposed to be better, but that means very little. They also aren't looking to undercut themselves, so you really shouldn't be seeing the same product with both names on it.

I like the Performance brand clothes (or at least I used to, I have heard they have switched suppliers). I have generally been pleased with Nashbar components. They are not light or particularly pretty, but they have all been functional and reasonably durable.

Look similar? As others have said, Performance/Nashbar doesn't make them... I think Elite is the manufacturer.

Not saying every branded product is this way, but it pays to do your research.

They are trying to get two different markets. Just like Toyota and Lexus are the same company, but Lexus is given the upscale image (and consequently higher price). Nashbar is meant to be the "bargain" company, and performance carries the "higher end" products. Like chimbly said, they try to carry different stuff so as not to compete with themselves.

No, they are using the " If you can't beat your competition, buy them" theory. They each have been around for a while and have some bussiness practices already in place. Performance bike also bought another mail order place. I think it was Colorado Cyclist. They want to buy the competition.

I've found Nashbar brakes to be perfectly good once you change the pads (the stock ones are pretty much just crayons for turning your rims black) and an outstanding value for 19.99 a pair as they usually are.

Every other nashbar branded item has been total junk identical to the noname stuff here (brands like Radical and Cheng Shin) in my experience, from components to tools, and I won't buy anymore, except the brakes.

My nashbar seat post has treated me very well, but honestly, how do you screw up a seat post?

Their handlebars are crap though, compared to Nitto.

Actually, Performance bought both Nashbar and Supergo. I miss Supergo.

I've had good luck with things like jerseys, saddle bags, brake pads, water bottles and cages, and other stuff like that from Nashbar. For real bike components or more critical clothing items, such as shorts, I stick with name brand stuff.

Yes I realize Performance bough Nashbar. And now that they've bought them, they want to differentiate their brands to appeal to more customers and make more $$$.

Cars are a great example of this. Ford, Lincoln and Mercury are all the same company (and often sell the same car), but through marketing and modifying the cars slightly, each brand has its own unique identity, so that Ford appeals to a much broader range of consumers and can sell more cars.

Look at the rear derailleur pages and tell me that the marketing guys aren't positioning Nashbar as the bargain brand and Performance as the higher-end:

Nashbar's derailleurs start at Tourney for under 10 bucks, and Performance doesn't sell anything under 105 level.
