One of the bolts on my seatpost snapped today, so it's time for a new bike. True, I could just buy a new seatpost for $20, but that's no fun. Here's my build idea, let me know what you think...
Frame: IRO Rob Roy
Wheels: I have a pair of Open Pro rims kicking around, so I'm thinking that I should get some of the IRO low flange hubs and then build the wheels up myself.
Tires: Something cheap from MEC
Chain: SRAM from MEC
Seatpost: I'm torn between blinging it out [Thomson] and going for the basics [IRO or Kalloy]
Seat: The ratty piece of crap I've been using since '96
Headset: I've had good luck with the Cane Creek S-6, but the FSA looks fine as well
Stem: I have a soft spot for Thomson, but I could go with a generic one just as easily
Bar: Flip/chop on a really cheap road bar
Brakes: I could pull the NGC982 cantis off my Axis [ca. 1986], or go with some Avid Shorty 6 or SD5
Levers: Dia-Compe SS-5 [for cantis] or Avid Ultimate
Tape: Black fabric tape
Cog: IRO or Surly
Freewheel: cheap and expendable
Chainring: Shimano XT from '95
Cables: whatever's handy
Fenders: Planet Bike
This bike will see pretty much daily duty and will be going to the bar with me, so I don't want to go nuts with expensive parts. Does anything look ridiculously out of place here?
