Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Ive been keeping up with the roadies on group rides on my rush hour 48x16 works good for me. Going down the big hills I spin out a bit but going up I pass alot of them, they are sitting there spinning the easiest gear they can. I get weird looks on my rush hour but I keep up with most of those guys.

What exactly was your question? Because the content of this thread and the title have little to do with each other as far as I can tell.

My bikes are either fixed or single speed. I run fixed/fixed on flip-flops.
If I need to coast I'll bring out my dedicated single speed road bike.

Too bad nobody, especially not people on the internet whom you've probably never met in person, care if you can keep up with "the roadies". Guess, what? You're a "roadie".

I sometimes throw it over onto the ss side if I'm to be climbing a lot of hills. Fixed can be as much of a workout going downhill as going up and when I'm headed to work at 6:30 am I am not in the mood.

OP, don't come on here talking about how you are faster than the roadies. It makes you sound like a recumbent rider and that's pretty dang sad.

And if you want to know what roadies think about other roadies bragging about smoking other roadies, do a search for R600 DuraAce.
