Pedal problem
My pedals are sticking making it really hard to get my feet into the clips. The bike was fine on friday. I pulled it out today and noticed rust on a few spots for the first time ever. Last week was a little wet but nothing to wild. They put a lot of ice out on the road. It covered my bike by the end of the week. Can ice cause rust? It has also been really really cold here today.
Basicly: Can the grease in the pedals freeze? Could it be rusted inside the pedal axle? How do I fix this?

what kind of pedals? if there is a dustcap on the end with bolts inside, you can take the pedal apart, clean it, regrease it, repack it, put it back together, and pop your dust caps and bolts back on. its not a terribly difficult process, and you can follow the instructions for repacking MKS Sylvans in the DIY thread. I repacked mine without that thread, common sense goes a long way. (but I did use [165]s headset repackg tutorial, so I applied the same principles basically. That and I had already taken them apart once with a friend. Watching is learning.)

yes if possible take the dust cas off the pedal then remove the pedal fom the axle check condition of the bearings and the axle/cups clean thoroughly and repack with white lithium grease whitelithium is extrememly water/freeze/scorch resistant ... enjoy riding your bike
some older greases are wax based and have a tendancy to freeze or breakdown in water or even scorch this could be your problem or it could be a worn axle/cup or ball bearing
I may put something in the diy thread I am about to rebuild a set of kkt track pedals before I sell em will post here when I post in diy
