Man, has anybody thought about how much ****ing business this group buy is going to pour into IRO? I'm sure people will buy build kits, headsets, wheelsets, bars, whatever else to go with their shiny new $150 frames. That's awesome. It's good to see IRO doing well, because they seem like good folks.

As for the wheelset...I got nothing. Sorry.

Dishonor.

I think those are Weimann(?) rims, but not sure. The IRO hubs are Formulas, I believe.

Dude, just get them. If Tony can send them out to be tested that way? We need to bring him the business.

On top of that, the Special Edition IRO he's putting together for us is great.

Great Frame.

Great Wheels.

Great Person in Tony= Friend for life

IRO hubs = Formula. The rims are not Weinmanns, where did you hear that?

i was one of the street testers for this wheelset, back in the late spring. i wrote a review, lost it somewhere, and never got around to posting it. here it is, abridged:

The wheels were packed well. No axles poking out of the box, nothing tangled, nothing that makes you say "eek, i think i'm going to damage it somehow by pulling it out of the box."

My first impression was that the Formula hubs were smoother than I remembered my own set being; the wheelbuild was excellent - true and evenly tensioned. I tossed on tubes and tires and pried my cog and lockring off of my everyday wheels to put on this set and I noticed a tiny tiny flaw. The threading of Formula hubs could be finished a little bit better - it just makes it a little grindy threading it on the first time. Of course, grease was used liberally; and just going over the threads with the cog (screwing and unscrewing a couple times) cleans them right up. Not a problem by any means.

I rode these wheels for over two weeks, probably putting about two hundred miles on them. I rode them over the worst streets you've never ridden on, railroad tracks, cobblestones. Every so often I'd go over and check the tension and trueness, and it never changed.

Of course, that's not particularly surprising. Two hundred miles underneath a 135lb kid isn't exactly torture on a wheelset, even over some terrible roads, curbs, and a small stairway or two. Any flaws that might be present wouldn't be manifested until much, much later.

So for better evidence I'd look to the other IRO wheel that I had ridden for over a year. Built by Velocity using an Aerohead, stayed true and tensioned after more than a year of use. And I'd look to Tony's own experience with the XL-240's, with him weighing more than I do, putting 2500 miles on them. They hold up. I trust his experience and I trust the wheelbuilding of Velocity.

After reading all this about this wheelset, I decided I would get them for my BFSSFG IRO. I got the Flat Black so these wheels would go nicely.

It's a good wheelset that will keep the costs down and give me more to spend on my "American" frame

if they are the same as the IRO branded silver ones he was selling at the end of the summer, my little bro bought a back wheel and it's been great.

I'm pretty sure they weren't aeroheads, because it was right as Tony was starting to sell the IRO brand rims and he was still selling aeroheads at the same time. I could be wrong however. Nice rims either way and a great price.

They are unlabled Velocity Fusions(per Tony IRO). I have them in both black and silver..

I have 1 silver wheelset with IRO rims and hubs.

I've also bought two sets of just rims. One is black and the other is silver. They are a great value and build into very nice wheels. When I had my LBS build the wheels, I told them they are Fusions. They used Fusions to calculate spoke length..

All I know is they came in a Velocity wheel box. I think Velocity builds them for him.

Question to testers... were the IRO Dark Matter hubs fixed/fixed stock or fixed/free?

I know I should ask Tony, but he is swamped right now and if I can get my answers here, I'd rather do that.

I have to agree about this: "...I noticed a tiny tiny flaw. The threading of Formula hubs could be finished a little bit better - it just makes it a little grindy threading it on the first time." It's true, but just take your time putting them together the first time and you'll be golden. I had Tony build me a set of all black Deep V's and they are rock solid.
