san fran riders: tell me about frank chu

i was just readin about him on wikipedia and found this:

"Chu is also a regular at San Francisco Bike Messenger Association events, usually in the form of barbecues and parties, and maintains a social relationship with a few bike messengers who live in the East Bay. At such functions he, although quiet at most times, behaves as anyone would expect a sane person to do so (see photo from Independent's Day messenger barbecue at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Chu_bbq.jpg"

any of you ever hung out with him?

12 galaxies

...he's at every protest carrying a black sign with green and red letters--usually something cryptic and creative concerning the current president, space/aliens and 12 galaxies. The venue 12 galaxies is named in honor of him, and at many a shows (he never has to pay) I've seen him chowing down front row on popeyes chicken.

Oh yeah, I've seen that guy in SF and I don't even live there. Everyone seems to know him. I've definitely seen his crazy signs talking about like alternate galaxies and weird **** like that...

Edit: Just read his Wikipedia entry, sometimes I like to have things remain mysterious rather than learn about them...

Not to hijack the thread, but whatever happened to crackhead chow, the other lunatic asian guy? The nutty little drunken chinese mongoloid who was always wandering around North Beach and Chinatown. Used to see him panhandling for booze money. I remember years ago someone put up stickers all around that area that had a picture of him and it said "crackhead chow." Priceless

I've talked to him a couple of times, very polite guy, you wouldn't know he was crazy until he starts telling you about how the CIA is trying to keep his family out of hollywood or something like that. the venue 12 galaxies is named after him, which is awesome. he shows up literally everywhere, especially at rallies and other protests where he can make his message heard and get on camera. i don't know how he makes a living, but a couple years ago he did start carrying an advertisement on the back of his protest sign.

To make the thread bi-coastal: DC is blessed with a guy that walks around the Connecticut Avenue/M Street area at a brisk pace in a long black leather trench coat and is always in heated arguments with himself/no one about something. He really likes to yell and curse and will occasionally yell at someone near him, but generally likes to wage heated debates amongst him and his "internal friends." I'd like to see this Mr. Chu character. I was fortunate enough to see the guy who scared people down at the piers the last time I was in SF.

In Ottawa we have this long haired Mongolian looking guy who wears a tank top and rides an old 10-speed. He always has either one of those air raid siren whistles, or just makes do with his own (piercing) whistling.
Also he sometimes wears a sars mask and pulls a trailer with a cage on it that contains a labrador retriever who often wears blinking lights on its head.

Ah, Dr Whistle.

Yeah, he's pretty quiet. But when he does talk, he's got this crazy gruff voice. You wouldn't expect it to come out of him.

Indeed he his, although his "Fenway ->" sign appears to have gone missing. It's actually a trike with a cargo box. I've seen him leave his bike unattended and unlocked... hopefully no one jacked the sign. I think his kit has gone untouched so far out of reverance. A true icon, and you can always find Fenway. It's like a Chinese South Pointing Wagon ;-)

This guy is known was Bushman, he scares people by hiding behind an obviously fake bush that he holds in his hand (sometimes it's basically a twig) and shouts BOO at people as they get too close. It's priceless, you can usually watch him all day if you sit in the window seats at Joe's Crab Shack and look across the street.

Not sure if this guy still hangs out at the cable car turn-around, but there was an aging black dude who sat next to a sign with all kinds of claims about HIV/AIDS, gay people, religion, etc, and he'd chat with you if you asked him about it.

the guy that annoyed me was the guy near the piers that comes up and is like "i'm sorry. i'm going to have to give you a citation." then writes you a ticket for "not smiling in a smiling zone" then tries to get a dollar

He goes around and does pushups EVERYWHERE (usually while smoking) and yells like an animal and tries to get in every tourist's photographs.
he's so awesome!
