Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

OOPS! Cranksets

Is that good? Are they conversion-friendly?

You mean the cranks?

https://www.nashbar.com/results.cfm?c...ry%3A%20Cranks

You can use them, but since they take an octalink BB, it's hard to adjust the crankset. And octalink's don't last the longest (their bearings are super-tiny).

I have an old square taper 105 crank on my beater conversion. These turn up on ebay all the time and are perfectly good for fg/ss and much cheaper than a new one, and there are more BB spindle length choices to help you get the right chainline. Cheap, used road cranks are a great way to experiment with different crank lengths too. I've played with a number of lengths and found 170s to be the best for me on a fg.
