Washers for a Cog where do i get it?
So i bought a EAI cog for my new hub. i had a mechanic at Bicycle Habitat install everything. he greased it, and put locktite on the cog. when i got home i put the wheel on my bike and notice there is a slight amount of space to where to cog goes. the guy says he rides fixed and knows what he's doing so i was okay with it. i ride around and notice that the slightest amount of backspace moves the cog. i pound it up an incline and go at tightening the lockring but when i go to tighten the ring the cog moves back as well so i think i need a spacer/washer for the cog. where can i get one or should i just go back to the shop for one? the play in it is very small but can be problematic in the long run i think.

hmm i dunno? i will take the wheel back to the shop i bought the wheel from (its an aerospoke hub) and have them install. i took the cog and ring off and found the threads on the lockring to be a very little bit stripped. this worries me cuz i heard EAI cogs were supposed to be wide but i will see when they put it on. i hope they have something thin enough for it.

well... it's an aerospoke, right? not a track wheel... right?
so the hub isn't a track hub, so there's a lot of threading on it for a cassette... right?

I have been having this same problem with my new aerospoke track hub. I put into the aerospoke I have been using as a front wheel. I know exactly the problem you are talking about and I have had several mechanics work on it and think they have gotten it tight...but it hasn't wored so far and I have redone it myself a few times too.
Today I had a spacer put inbetween the cog and lockring cause there is a small area between the two thread sets that is smooth. It didn't really fix it.
The problem is that you get he lockring tight and when you try and get it the last little bit, it pulls the cog with it. this loosens the cog and tightens the lockring. when you pedal forward, the cog slips tight and the lockring moves with it, getting a little loose. I have tried using the cog tightening technique using the frame...and whilei am holding hte cog in place like that, I have a friend wrench on the lockring.
I have never had this problem before and I can't figure out how to fix it yet.
Let me know if you solve it.

* i was thinkin maybe i may put the spacer at the back where the cog goes and then see if that works since it seems the cog isnt supertight against the hub back.

yeah, after you get the cog nice n tight and you try to tighten the lockring more...it just pulls the cog with it (lossening it)...maybe someone should contact aerospoke and figure out what the mo fukkin' deal is. the track hubs are very new for them.

hmmm I installed mine the first time on monday night. I have redone it myself a few times, and had 2 different mechanics give it a shot.
I have tried with and without loctite, with grease allover everything to try and stop them (cog/lockring) from pulling on one another.

dang...everything i was gonna do as well. was there any thread strippin in the process? the hubs seem like they have high quality threads so that's a plus to them. i hope A-spoke fill me in on details or tips

Well i just had a friend torque on the lockring wrench while I held the cog in place with the chain. He was able to get the lockring to tighten a little...but its still clicking a little back and forth. I even have that cassette spacer in there. It really shouldn't be this hard. I have had no problem with other hubs in the past. i am curious to see what aerospoke says.
i haven't noticed any thread damage and I have been riding on it like this because I have to.

o man this sucks having to wait and wonder. and i hope they don't go political on me cuz for a wheel this costly, something like this shouldn't be a problem. its funny how a much inferior hub has no prob like this. same here as this thing being a first.

So, try this. put the wheel on your bike and place your thumb half on the wheel and half on the hub. Press on one pedal at a time to click it back and forth. do you feel that? The hub is shifting in the wheel. Or at least on mine it is. Did you istall the hub yourself or did you buy the wheel complete? i installed mine myself and apparently you need to really torque down on the hub to get it rock solid in the shell. I was able to tighten it some, and will have bigger and better tools to use on it tomorrow.
this sounds like it may be your problem too.
So, try this. put the wheel on your bike and place your thumb half on the wheel and half on the hub. Press on one pedal at a time to click it back and forth. do you feel that? so if when you tighten everything down there is still room between the cog and lockring, you can get a bottom bracket spacer to fill the extra space... im pretty sure you would put it behind the cog and not in between the cog and lockring but someone else might know better..

I used this big adjustable wrench I found in our garage that we share with upstairs neighbors. I am going to find a big cone wrench tomorrow to see if I can get it any tighter. This is surely what is causing the movement for me. I just hope the hub isn't damaged on the inside. It connects kind of like a giant octalink joint (with more teeth, but its the closest comaprable thing I can think of).

Yeah, mine feels so nice when I am riding it. Its not like my last wheel was crap either, it was a phil to aerohead. But this setup feels even more smooth. I can't get it to click anymore, I will ride it tomorrow just to make sure its perfect. I can't believe a problem was actually solved here. mostly you just get a lot of guff.
