answered | single speed BB for FG ok?
was just browsing ebay looking for a new BB and saw an auction for a sugino SS BB. thought about it for a bit and did a search for the sugino 75 "track" BB.
just a random question cause i have no reading comprehension and i obsess about wording. boredom at work!
can you use a SS BB on a fixed gear? is this just a case of low-end vs. high end, hence the wording?

Flip flop and BB's are separate subjects.
A BB(Bottom Bracket) is where the pedals are connected to the frame and flip flop are a type of wheel hub, the thing in the middle of the wheel where you install it on the frame.
The term single-speed BB is a misnomer. They all function the same way.
They would word it SS BB to note it as a lower-end item but some people use Phil Wood BB to build SS's.

to the OP, generally, any bottom bracket will do the job as long as you have the right
1. bbshell size,
2. bb spindle length,
3. and crank interface (Ie square taper, octalink, isis, etc.. ) most track stuff is square taper

When you see the word "track" hub. It means super bling, expensive and not for road use BB. Most likely non sealed. Don't buy these if you're riding on the road. Unless you want massive hipster points.

What crank do you plan to use? You need to know the spindle length that will give you the right chainline. As others have mentioned, there is nothing inherently "fixed" about any BB. I suspect that you are looking on ebay, where almost every listing now includes the words "fixed", "track" and "pista" to up the search hits.

How many people are going to specifically look at your BB to tell if it deems calling someone a hipster?

Pardon my ignorance, but does SS on a BB does even mean "single speed?" I've only worried about the spindle length. And what's all this talk about not riding loose balls on the road?

And then, you are assuming that all flip flop hubs are fixed/free, when a lot of them are free/free and fixed/fixed.
but whatever...........

This is what happens when you read peoples post literally without thinking about it.

Good work, gumshoe.

Specifically whether there is bottom bracket subtype of "track/sugino 75" vs normal road ones. And if that is the case, whether they are compatible or not. And the answer to this is no, there is no difference in bb's used for fixed gears just because it says "track" on it. So not good work.
