but the girl doesn't have a penis. it'll be impossible for her to ride without one of at least moderate length and heft.

it's not machismo. it's just that 73 isnt hard. Even if it's a bit more difficult for someone it's certainly not enough to worry about damage to your knees. Honestly if someone is so worried about their knees they probably shouldnt be riding brakeless fixed.

FOR YOU. If you're overweight, or riding in areas of hills, it might not be the case. I'm sure that if EVERYONE had to ride fixed, most would think anything over 70 is hard on anything that isn't flat. 92.6 of hills is impressive, but to assume that it's not hard for the average rider is arrogant, IMHO.

Well I guess that can interpreted as such. I just dont think it is because whenever someone around here asks what gear ratio they should start with most people suggest 70-80. But obviously terrain differs.

guys you are really being pretty dense here. obviously she's a beginner in the world of fixed gear bicycles, and if she's going to get rid of her brake, almost any gear ratio is going to be hard for her to stop with. i was just saying that it would be better for her to have a smaller ratio to learn on so that she doesnt kill herself. you guys really need to relax the tough guy posturing going on up in here.

what ratio are you running? your velospace says 4615 and thats what, like 80ish? It's certainly not 90 unless you are running huge tires

not hating just wondering.

I like the idea of color-scheming a bike to match a director's cinematic style, but nothing about a compact geometry track bike reminds me of Wes Anderson. I'd picture a more vintage style road bike (conversion maybe). And how is a wes anderson bike going to have no sky blue on it?

Gnar, I used to run 48 15 but I switched to 17 cause I couldn't take the hills. Hats off to your legs.

my school is a 40 minute drive from my house. i throw my bike in my truck bed, park in the free lots (relatively far) and ride to class (5 minute bike ride, 10-15 minute walk from a "good" parking spot", IF you can find one. finding one takes 5-20 minutes.) not to mention riding my bike from class to class has been the best idea i've had in college.

so i feel like a jackass when i throw my bike in my truck bed. it's a tacoma though, not a beefy texas edition chevy silverado extended cab.

it's just funny though.

some dude came up to me at the bike rack (ice breaker- "hey, what gear ratio you running?") and we talked about about fixed gear bikes and how we're just starting. he tells me he commutes from what would be a 30 minute drive by car (his route, main roads no freeway) to school. then i just go "i.. throw my bike in my truck bed..." cool guy though. if he posts here, sorry for splitting i was late for statics.

well i found it funny

Thus you can see... I don't see any reason to think thats shopped.

i toss my bike in my car all the time to ride to a place nearer a trail entrance. the roads immediately surrounding my house are shoulderless, extremely winding and hilly. i only have to go about 3 miles, but it's well worth the safety, imo.

Every road should be safe, but some aren't just because the drivers don't expect to see you there. Blaze a trail, jorge, that's what I say everytime i pee myself

there's a kid that does that where i go to school. the only difference is that the furthest lot from any building is literally a 5 minute walk, if you have a messed up leg. the kid is a huge tool, somedays he rides a overbuilt downhill bike, and other days its a unicycle. Why would you even bother bringing the bike then? The lot he parks in is over a pretty annoying hill so i'm pretty sure he goes around it, which makes his ride longer. I could see doing that if you went to like Penn State main campus, that place is huge.

EDIT: i should clarify. He isn't a tool because of the bike in the truck, he's a tool because he's a mega ******. I've spoken to him, and he should probably focus on being less of a tool.

Right, but I live in Chicago which is flat an smooth for miles and miles. In a city with amply wide streets and some of the best public transit around there is no reason to drive around in a car. Ever(unless you're moving furniture or something). And it annoys the hell out of me to see sombody toting their brakeless bike around on the back of their car like a handbag dog. I'm probably the jackass, but I HATE cars and the people in them. I acknowlege their occasional nececity, for instance I am moving this weekend and will be driving a (borrowed) pickup, but those who drive every because they assume there is no other way are stubborn and insane.

Mmm, I'm sure this has occurred to you with the pic you posted, but perhaps the driver was bringing their bicycle... from Pennsylvania?

This is probably true as the car was parked in the pull-out in front of the John Hancock building (somewhere only a tourist would go). But the fact remains that bikes on cars bug me.

well that's kind of stupid. I work at a summer camp and I'm going to be bringing my bikes with me but I'm sure as **** not going to be able to ride 3 bikes up to central PA with all my gear for the summer. So they're going to be hanging off the back of my car.
