Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? As per the site where I found these jems, this was done on purpose...

"I’ve been riding bullhorn pursuit bars (see Figure A) on my track bike for a little over 5 years. As A messenger they were easier to carry archive boxes on my bars and still have both hands on the bars. That day, when I saw how upright and comfortable the man on the schwinn was riding I decided to give it a try. I simply flipped my pursuit bars up (see Figure B).
I discovered the amazingly comfortable new world appropriately named the DUI (like the traffic citation) Style! It was like having 2 bikes in one! Flipped down I was in race mode. I could skid much further and I would gain WAY more street cred. Flipped up I feel like a 1920 western union messenger. Not to mention i am upright and my back feels great with out getting off a track bike! The best part about pursuit bars is that you can switch between the two different styles with a twist of an allen. So, after a hard day of time trialing through the city looking like a bad ass, I can cruise home in comfort DUI style."

I don't really see the problem here. His rationale makes sense to me.

Seconded. (In his application) i see nothing wrong with it, it's logically sound, has function and isn't just for aesthetic points.

Not exactly group consensus, just one guy who doesn't know what he's talking about.

You are not allowed to Lol at anybody until you study this sentence carefully:

"Today, I rode my road bike."

This guy probably isn't alcoholic if he wants wine and microbrew beer. A real alcoholic would just get a handle of cheap ass liquor. He probably just has a bike and doesn't know of anything he would want to trade it for other than beer/wine/cash

Why would one want to skid further? Takes longer to slow and/or stop. Skidding for appearances' sake is pretty jackass.

why is that bike ill-fitting? Doesn't look too out of whack to me? Stem is a little high, I guess. Those GTs are the bikes they rent out at my local velodrome. Well, not local, but it's the closest one to me and it's 3 hours away outside of Dallas. It's an AMAZING veolodrome, though. I rode those GTs...very very very agressive geometry. I'm not surprised the guy would stick his stem up like that

"werd. kinda crazy, huh.

you got a tarck bike? "

What, you have enough "street cred" to use the term "tarck" ? And you pretend to know me enough to ban me from using a term? Who do you think you are? Tarck boy?

Point made, thanks. Alright, maybe I over reacted. Maybe I am just old...and tired of the fad. Tired of kids wearing their sisters pants who think they know it all.
