Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

haven't you seen the new pinarellos?

'curvy' stays are the new studded belt.

I was tempted to chime and say yes, but I'm not a framebuilder.

I would worry what else has been damaged, for example the chain stays may be toast as well. I'd guess a repair is going to get close to 2 bills + the price of new paint. But again, I know next to nothing about frame building.

yeah, if the headtube's cracked you're pretty much in for a new frame.

I'd also say email IF, but I wouldn't buy it. That thing got hit HARD, you could redo the rear triangle but there could be a lot of other stuff going on. Maybe if I could see it in person, but not over ebay.

IF won't do it, or I knew they didn't do repairs like that back in 2002.

You would have to have someone cut out the old tubes and weld bead, then reweld new stays on. It's not plug-n-play like lugged frames.
Plus, you're rewelding on top of metal that's already been heat affected which is going to be significantly less strong than the original weld. Pass, unless you're gonna make a tall bike that will really make people cringe.

The seller is lying. That bike was driven into a frigging garage. Please tell me how on earth that would've happened in "shipping".

Don't buy into other people's problems. It's not worth it.

I'm quite aware of the perils of shipping but if that were the case, why is no other part of the frame damaged?

I don't think it was a garage hit, there is no paint damage around the bend in the stays, and it doesn't even really look like the bike was ever built up.

It's funny that he recommends insurance. Are we worried about it arriving damaged?

If it had been damaged in shipping why didn't he file a claim. Total baloney, I would steer clear of it.
