I have the 2007 pista - the pedal on the crank side stripped off on me after a hard resistance brake so I replaced it with a campy pista crankset and bb. Not to say that the truvativ is a poor crank, could have just been a poor install.

Are you talking about a Pista Concept, which is what the OP was asking over? Be really poor to drop over a grand on a bike and have something break straight away.

One website I saw had the 2007 Concepts listed with a "SRAM Pro track crank and bottom bracket" rather than Truvativ branded crank. Would be interested to see what the bcd is here and what kind of interface, splined/taper the BB has.

Definitely seems to be little info on 2007s right now.

As SRAM own Truvativ I guess they can call it what they want. But this guy's blog states its 144bcd which is nice to see.

Nice photo here

And as normal, theres been a million threads on this crank already, but no-one seems to have one:

whoops - my bad. I have the bianchi pista, not the concept. Looking at the later posts the crankset looks different (both are truvativ however).

Why do people say that external bearing cranks have a larger Q factor? My 7800 Dura Ace road crank has crank arms that come just as close to the chain stays as my 7700 crank out by the pedals thus the Q factor is the same.

The mmish wider q factor is made up for by the extra stiffness. And not many people in here really need the extra stiffness or perfect q factor. About the cranks though, they are quite nice.

i was very resistant to the idea of outboard bearings at first, but since i put a set of deore lx cranks on my tour bike, i'm a true believer. they're nice, chainline is mad adjustable (although it doesn't have to be on that application, but it's good if i ever switched from the current 135mm spacing to 130mm). i was thinking of grabbing a concept frameset to build up, but ever since i decided that i want tubulars, i think it might make sense to get a complete. the only thing i'd *have* to switch is the saddle, and prolly the tires, in time. (i want tufo elite roads at some point.) now, i've got no direct experience with this new crank, and i guess it'd seem kinda goofy to buy a bike like that, and immediately have to switch the cranks to something like 75's with a phil or skf BB, b/c that'd be even more cheddar cheese, and it gets right into the whole "might as well get a frame, then build it up. *****, might as well get a *custom* frame, and build it up." and, all of that takes more time n money than i got right now...

so, learn_not2burn, have you rode those cranks? or just seen 'em in person? i've yet to lay eyes on 'em, apart from online and catalog pics. they do seem very nice, but the question remains: are they as nice as they seem?

tia,
