Old Coots on Fixies?
I recently finished converting my old Raleigh 3 speed to a fixie. This started as a project for my kids to ride. However, my 20 year old has been out of town for the last 2 weeks and I have been riding the heck out of it. If she wants to take it to school with her, we might have a problem. Here in Austin, it is very unusual to see anyone other than college students on fixies. Are there any other members over 50, riding fixies?

I think the fact you called yourself an 'Old Coot' and posted here clearly shows you are ready for a fixed gear bicycle. Nice conversion btw!

Very classy conversion indeed. Just make sure to wear some wool suit and a flat cap when you ride it so those college students give you some streeet cred.

Thanks for all the kind words. Before anyone tries to take on a similar project, you should read the saga of my efforts on the C&V forum.

I'm 56 and I've been riding the fixed gear, posing, and making pizzas for a very long time. Echo Park is Mi Barrio.

Been riding fixed gears off and on since '75.
Still at it.
Planning a nice 50 miler on the fixed gear tomorrow morning!

man....I DIDN'T KNOW THERE WERE SO MANY GERIATRIC HIPSTERS!!!!
I HEAR THERES A 50 PERCENT OFF DEAL ON LIPITOR WHEN YOU BUY AN AEROSPOKE!
hehe kidding, kidding...just a little rib pokin'...
you guys must be in pretty good shape riding fixed 50+! because i definitely feel much more of a workout on my fixed than on my geared, coast-able bikes.
