Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Make sure your saddle is level, a few degrees of forward and up tilt can make your **** hurt something bad.

I second this. I went through various seats recently, they all hurt after a few hours in the saddle. I just picked up a Toupe and it's incredible.

It's expensive, but so so worth it if you can't find a comfortable saddle.

when it comes to form vs. function, i choose function.

I like morning wood and this thing is going to look hot on my Concept.

I third the Specialized saddle, especially if you're a non-average body type. I've got child-bearing hips, and most saddles feel like ass hatchets. The 155mm Avatar is the perfect width - I have them on all my bikes.

A long time ago I read a Sheldon Brown article on saddles and dismissed it as not believable.

Sheldon said to go with harder, or firmer saddle and not a softer saddle.

That doesn't make sense.

However, after many miles of discomfort, I decided to give Sheldon Brown's advice a try.

I got a hard saddle with NO padding.

Ahhhhhhh.....

Relief.

A hard saddle puts the pressure on the sit bones and not on the goodies in between.

Try the Fizik Arione. A lot of people like them, and its the most comfortable saddle I've ever owned. I rode my bike from Sweden to Spain (pulling a trailer) without any discomfort in the seat at all, everything else was hurting though...

I love my terry fly. I've never tried the fizik arione, but it looks rather celibacy-inducing.
