I lived in Miami till I was 18, to be honest the amount of urban sprawl and lack of a true downtown kind of makes it suck. I don't really care for it too much. A lot of people on South Beach ride around on little cruiser bikes, but there's not much else afaik. It's a very car based city. My high school was an hour north of my house, I had to take a car, train, and bus every morning and afternoon. All the people on the train were doing the same but for work. Can't say I ever saw many people on bikes.

PM NextDollarAfter. He lives in Miami.
There's some trails to ride here. I live right near Brian Piccalo Velodrome. People really suck at driving. I see roadies on group rides in the suburbs, but I don't know about Miami really.
Thats about all I can think of.

I lived in Miami for a couple of years and was just there last week. Cycling sucks there for certain as the drivers are very very aggressive. Not overly bike friendly. It is a big place, where in Miami are you going to be staying? North, South, coast? I lived in North Miami, which wasn't all that nice. I also had a job that was into demographics and learned the area very well. If I was to ride a bike there, I am thinking around A1A areas are best. You don't want to be in areas that cars can fly, because they do. Lots of crazy driving there and high stress. Florida isn't a very good state in general for cyclist, except mostly on the west coast. That is a little better compared to W. Palm and down on the east. Jacksonville would suck with all the red necks as would most of the interior of Florida. It really isn't a good state over all for cyclists. Old people, tons of red necks from the interior, crazy drivers from NJ and NY in the lower east coast. I don't mind riding in Sarasota and Venice. Those areas were pretty good IMHO, but of course flat.
You could take up running for a couple of months.

I love miami. Yeah that's right. Not a ton cycling related. Oleta and Amelia parks have trails for MTB, Brian Piccolo velodrome is like 30 mins. away. Business Cycles down in south miami. Couple other good shops, Broken Spoke in North Miami is a great shop with a lot of older bikes(he's got two decked out in inch pitch that I wish I had room for in my apartment.)
you'll see some roadies in downtown on the weekends and there are a couple kids who do mess work in downtown, but no real scene as far as anything fixie oriented. check miami.indymedia.org for info about the critical masses, but they aren't all that great.
the drivers are def. way aggressive and don't know what they are doing, but as long as you stay calm and take the part of the lane that's yours you shouldn't really have a problem, I haven't had one yet, and I don't know of anyone who has had anything too bad happen to them(one friend had a bottle thrown at them from a car, but that's it)

Im not really sure where in Miami Im gunna be living...me and my husband are moving there for around 4 months (I think) for about a semester of his medical school..after that we will be up in NYC so that will be cool...Im from LA so Im used to crazy drivers
Actually, I am happy to go anywhere with paved roads and stoplights cuz Im in the caribbean now and it is disgustingly hot, has THE worst roads and drivers of anywhere, no bike shops, and there are noone on bikes except a few people on BMX going around 2 mph that are more of a hazard than anything else (bastard the other day crosses the street right in front of me, after looking me right in the face..and I dodge but he hits my pedal and back wheel anyways..)
So, at the very least, in Miami there are some weak crit masses (something's better than nothing), a velodrome, at least one bike shop, and traffic to play in ..it'll be so rad when I can ride without having to stare down at the road in fear of 4 billion 3 foot potholes...

Well the roads in miami are pretty good in general, compared to most cities. Certainly better than where I live, so that is a plus. The weather is really nice all times of year as far as I am concerned. I don't mind the heat and Miami is better than Orlando as far as weather goes. Florida is a strange place for cycling. Sarasota/Venice area is by far the best place I have ridden.

Been to Miami Ink. It is on Washington. Like three streets over from the beach. Like on 13th or something. I was just there. I took a picture in front of it and got yelled at. They were cool though as they were shooting. I believe you can get a tattoo there not on camera still. They are said to be expensive, but I didn't look into it as I am not that impressed with the work. I feel there are better artists here in Pittsburgh to be honest.
