Wait, what do you mean by townie? I ride my fixie around town...

seaneee 04-10-07 09:37 PM

Townies are for guys (like me) that are trying to hold onto their youth, but are slowly slipping into retro-grouch territory.

all bikes approach townies/commuters. Or is it that all riders end up there?
Yeah, get old enough and practicality starts to THROW itself at you whether you want it or not.

Hahahaha ... Deep Vs on a townie look awesome. Welcome to so wrong it's right territory.

Boss Moniker 04-11-07 10:50 AM

'Tis funny because Townie is a brand of comfort bikes.. like, seriously semi-recumbent comfort bikes. Sold one yesterday.

hairlessbill 04-11-07 10:59 AM

All my bikes are townies but this is my favorite:

I just took it apart today for re-paint and new parts. My new townie completed today! Yay! I try to get a proper digicam from somewhere...

Here's my 24" Hiawatha with 26" rims and tires. It'll go anywhere. I think it was made in '46.

Schwinn World Sport conversion. I want a Paul's Flatbed type front rack and the rattle can paint job is getting pretty beat, so I might splurge for a powder coat this spring.

Some people keep posting typical stripped-down fixed gears and calling them 'townies'. Nice bikes, but they're not townies. You need practical non-racing crap, like fenders, racks, promenade bars, or what-not.
