Flipping pedal in snow / wet/ rain

Do any of you have trouble flipping the pedal when its wet? When its dry I can flip it on 1st try 90% of the time. But there has been times when I have been riding in the snow, or where its still wet from snow or slush and would end up giving up and just riding on the other side for a block or two until my foot/pedal drys off a bit. Rare, but has happened, and really annoying.

Even in any kind of wetness its more difficult.

Been thinking of trying clipless more and more lately.

No problems here dude, I ride clipless, it's a beautiful thing. Snowfall here in Michigan isn't a worry. I'd suggest trying it out!

As for clipless, meant on fixed gear. Rode with spd-sl on a road bike last summer. Really didn't enjoy carrying shoes, and walking in spd-sl. Would definitely go spd shoes this time with a recessed cleat.

Been pretty happy with my current setup, aside from the trouble occasionally when wet. But finally decided my reebok classics are trashed and tossed them (smelly, dirty, toes are tore up from the clips, etc). Have probably ridden 1000 miles with those shoes so was quite comfortable with them on the bike. Now I'm wearing some supra dixon's. And new shoe, so feels much different now.

Think about clipless from time to time, and just been thinking about it more the past couple of days.

But enough with the clipless talk, not what this thread is for. Let me know if any of you that use clips + straps have trouble flipping the pedal when wet. Probably common, but if not maybe have to look closer at my technique.

Thanks.

I know its frowned upon, but I don't use clips in nasty weather.

I do not ride in the rain so much anymore, mostly because it does not rain a ton where I live now, but it can be tricky due to slick pedals, just have to adjust.

Sounds like you need pedals with more tooth to them, or shoes that aren't entirely free of tread. What kind of pedals are you using?

Definitely tougher in the wet. I just use an exaggerated movement to get it in there kinda point my toes straight down, maybe even back a little bit 'til my hamstring starts to cramp, maybe even go nuts and lean forward 'til your thigh hits the bars and then dig back into that pedal. I never go a couple blocks on the backside of the pedal though, because things NEVER dry off here and riding on the backside of these pedals in the wet is the most dangerous thing I do on a regular basis:

I use crank brothers egg beater clipless pedals - never have to flip them. Can also use MTB shoes and walk in them pretty well

I used to wear these knobby-bottomed Pumas that were awesome for flipping pedals, especially with the huge flip tab on the MKS GR9s. I recently switched to Vans, and I'll admit that it's harder to flip in wet conditions than with the Pumas. It's still not that big of a problem for me, though.

In bad weather, I find it easier to, instead of "flipping the pedal," point my toes straight down and use the toe of my shoe to kind of "catch" the clip.

I know that description sucked, but I took the time to type it out sooooo...

Thanks for the replies.

Using white industries pedals. Has a strange flip tab actually.

Luckily the times I have problems are far and few between. Also the shoes I have now have a better gripping pattern on the bottom than my past shoes, so might not have as much trouble with them.

Just was wondering if others had trouble in the wet. Thanks.
