Kagero owners. Need some insight.

Just purchased a Kagero frame and building it up, all new parts. It has 2011 chainstays with no crimping. I talked with Patrick at PC about any clearance issues with any cranks on the market and he mentioned the Omniums, more specifically GXP BB, have some issues with fitment. He didn't have specifics as to how it was an issue but that he had heard some complaints about 2012 GXP's and up.

I've scanned through PedalRoom and there are a lot of Kagero's running the Omniums with what I could only guess is the GXP BB.

Was curious if anyone had experience with this setup and if so could give me some feedback.

My friend said that when he use Omniums on his Kagero, he's using some additional "spacers". If he doesn't do that, the chainring will hit the chainstays. For a square-tappered BB, as far as I've heard, it requires a minimum 110mm spindle-lenght.

as for myself, I've bought a used 2011 kagero and the previous owner didn't know well about the BB's spindle-lenght (it's square-tappered BB). When I installed my Sugino 75 arm, the chainring has a narrow gap with the chainstay (I'll post the pic soon) BUT it made a pretty straight chain-line. So I guess my BB's spindle around 110's

Ugh. Why do so many people think those spacers are supposed to be used for adjusting chainline and avoiding clearance issues? Using spacers on a GXP bottom bracket designed to fit in a 68mm shell (as with Omniums and S-300s) will prevent the non-drive side arm from bottoming out on the spindle when installed to proper torque. Do not use spacers.

Also - when it comes to square-taper BBs - the spindle length is determined by the crankset being used, not the frame.

That's about how much clearance I had with my 75s on my 2011 Kagero (when using the proper 109mm ISO spindle). I probably have less clearance using the same crank/BB setup on my Dodici Gara. It's no big deal.

Yep, that's why I don't wanna change the crankset setup again. Planning to change the BB into SG75 NJS with 109mm spindle but it maybe later, still saving money for other part

Good luck. After using an ISO crankset on the incorrect BB with a JIS spindle, the crank arms may not fit onto a ISO spindle correctly.

It's viceversa right?
I'm using JIS spindle before on my Anchor (SG75 bb), if my current BB is ISO so it shouldn't fit properly now CMIIW
But so far it's fine

The proper Sugino 75 BB is ISO, not JIS. But you apparently know more than me because I live under a rock.

So...are we going to run into issues with the GXP BB? Are all these people I see running Omnium's on their Kagero's just running different BB's?

You can't use a different BB. Omniums are a GXP crankset. Even if you do use a GXP BB that is a different brand than the stock one, the clearance will still be the same because the spindle is attached to the drive-side crank arm.

If you already have the frame and the crankset, why don't you just try it and see if it works?

It seems that no one here using Kagero with Omnium cranksets. But hey it's all about curiosity right? Maybe you can PM them at Pedalroom to ask personally

As for yourself, what crankset are you gonna use for your Kagero?
I've heard that the only problem for Kagero that it has a pretty wide chainstay so sooner or later, this crankset problem will come to you

Good info. I don't have the Omnium's currently, I'm trying to decide what crankset to go with. I'd like to avoid buying a crankset to see how it works if it is avoidable.

Maybe I'll try to PM them on PR. Thanks.
