instigator

Hey im a big surly fan, and i was wondering if you could make the instigator a single speed?

you can definitely run it singlespeed.
you just need the proper chain tensioner.
i hear great things about the rennen.

Just curious, what are you going to be using it for? The 1x1 makes a far better SS (it's about 3 pounds lighter, for one).

I thought this was going to be about an instigating minor, a fighting major, and a ten minute misconduct.

The instegator has better geo for dirt jump/freeride. The 1x1 takjes an 80mm suspended fork, the instegator will take up to 150mm. It's built substantially stronger.

I've seen it set up for just that (dj/urban freeride) in Toronto. The guy loved the bike. It was the orange version w/ the non-drive side gusset.

You could definitely do it with a chain tensioner or an ENO hub if you wanted to do it up right. As Aeroplane said, unless you're getting crazy on it,the 1x1 is a better all-around ride.

what about this, the instigator with the santa cruz bullet component? meaning it wouldnt be a singlespeed

dustinlikewhat 04-30-07 01:51 PM

i have an instigator, and there's no way I'd run it single speed, it's way to heavy. Unless you're running an insane gear ratio and are only doing down hills on it, go with something lighter. or just leave the gears on and enjoy the sweetness.
